Boss DD-3 Delay Problems???

I was wondering if anyone else had issues with a Boss DD-3? I bought this less than a year ago and now the pedal makes very loud "popping" and/or "cracking" noises when the time knob is turned way up. I'm running it through the loop of my amp so it's a clean signal. I guess I have to send it back to Boss at this point??!!

Are you running it off a battery or an external power source? I found my DD3 eats batteries like crazy and acted up when it got low, I finally went to a OneSpot and it's been good ever since. It also might be a dirty pot ?
