  • Thoughts and opinions of the mesa roadking series 1 combo?

    hey all

Well, I had the head. I swapped it for a Marshall JVM full stack as the Marshall is more my kind of tone and there's less to "go wrong" if you know what I mean. I dont know how much different the combo would sound.

The tone of the RK 1 was intense. It gets a fantastic creamy crunch tone and the high gain channels are better than triple rec (although similar) in my opinion. VERY punchy.

There are probably better clean tones and jesus is there so much too it. The back looks like a super computer from the 70's or something. Scary.

Its a really good amp but I wouldn't spend all that money on something like that again. In all honesty I can get the same tones (and more) with a GT10 and a really good tube power amp. Seriously, and for a fraction of the cost.
But I would certainly try before you buy. If you play blues or modern metal, you'll probably love it. But there are far more affordable options for either.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

I have a series I head, and all my guitars have EMGs in them. I think the head sound fantastic. It has the Mesa recto high gain sound, which a lot of people love, but some don't. If you don't like the recto high gain sound, then this is not the amp for you. The clean sounds are great, it goes from super clean Fender tones to gritty marshall type cleans. There are also a lot of mid-gain tones to be found. One of my favorites is ch. 2 on Brit, with the gain cracnked and the el34 tubes, it sounds very similar to a jcm800.

      Anyway, for clips:

The track here has the RK on the left and right, as well as for cleans:
Fools Game's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

The tracks from The Longest Night and Be Gone are RK left and right as well:
Pharaoh's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

The track Hunt here is all RK:
Division's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.
...that the play is the tragedy, "Man"

I had the combo. Fantastic amp that has tons of different sounds in it thanks to the selectable tubes and rectifier combinations. I could get anywhere from crystal cleans to Gilmour to Dream Theater to Iced Earth from that amp.

I ended up selling it because I really needed the $2100. Otherwise I'd still have it. The only downside was that it weighed like 120 pounds, but the handle design made it seem not so heavy.
