  • What's your ideal recorded sound?

I think we all have a good idea in our head what our ultimate tone would soundlike. For me, the guitars on Hatebreed - Supremacy sound EXACTLY how I've always wanted to sound. They are thick and heavy, not fuzzy, buzzy, or overly compressed. Nice and chunky. Unfortunately, on Youtube, it does sound compressed all to hell. Not a good representation at all.

    So, what's yours?

I think the ultimate tone is Angus Young's Tone. It is totally unaltered by FX's & is as pure as guitar tone can get....of course we are talking about 2 totally different types of music, but it amazes me that here we are almost 30 years away from the debut of Back in Black & the recording from the 80's holds up to the newest recording.

Early Malmsteen sound, say the first album era. It just does not get any better than that. "May be" including Marching Out, but it is already pushing it.

Exodus... anything Gary Holt plays on sounds amazing to me; though, I'm more partial to the Impact Is Imminent and Force Of Habit CDs.

That's a great one too. One of the best metal guitar tones ever.

mine does too, but i really like the sounds edguy was getting on the "hellfire club"....not just the guitars, but the whole band....that album is very crunchy without being too gained out.

I hear you there..... that was great tone.

I do have to say that my favorite tone ever was George Lynch's on The Tooth and Nail CD. damn that had some vibe to it.

I am not going to sit here and say its the best tone ever because tone is a subject to opinion and cant be "quantified or measured"

but have a listen to the CD if you havent and if you have, have a refresher listen. its some great gutiar tone. SOme songs where it really shines are:

                            "when heaven comes down"
                            "into the Fire"
                            "Dont close your eyes"
                            "tooth and nail"

He had some great tone on the Back for the attack CD too. but there is just something about the Tooth & nail tone that is so cool.
"clean sounds are for pussies" - Axewielder

Probably George Lynch's tone on Dokken's Back for the Attack. Also love the tone on his live intro solo to Paris is Burning.

I really dig the guitar tone in general, both rythym and solos, on Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime and Priest's Defenders of the Faith records too.

Steve Stevens on Eyes Without a Face.

For a clean sound, Brad Paisley on Throttleneck.
