Randall XTC tube pre amp box.... what is your opinion?

Would this be a good one, to go with my VHT 2/90/2 amp, thru
the Boss GT-10? I was wondering about going a true Tube preamp,
instead of "Modeling"...although i do like my tone... any thoughts on
this one? It's $210.00 and has 2 -- 12AX7's in it...

Robert the MTS modules won't do you any good by themselves. You will still need the RM4 preamp - it can hold 4 modules at a time.

The XTC module sounds great.

The Randall MTS line rocks. I have an RM100 and about 7 modules right now. I love them and would not even consider another amp line at this time. They are so versatile that you can get virtually any tone out of them.

Thanks guys...so the $210.00 is just for the base unit...and then
you start adding modules? How much for each? $110.00? I would

no, the module is $210. You would still need to buy one of the amplifiers. For hooking up to your VHT, the RM4 preamp might be the way to go

but if all you want is one module, there is a small combo amp that takes only one.

Their is a 20 watt head with a slot for 1 module called the RM20. Their is also an RM50 (up to 2 modules, 50 watts) and an RM100 (up to 3 modules 100 watts).

The modules are also compatible with Egnater Mod50's and Mod100's

Or, if you want to use your own power amp, you can use an Egnater M4 (Up to 4 modules) preamp or Randall RM4 preamp (also up to 4 modules)

i love my RM100 all my moduels sound awesome , next on my list is the XTC

XTC is my main distortion module in my RM100. Actually I have two of them, one stock and the other modded by Pete and they both smoke!
As others have said, you need either a Randall/Egnater amp or pre-amp to use the module. Can't use it by itself. Also, once you have the proper amp or pre-amp you can buy used modules for much less than $210

Robert - don't get the RM20 head or comboe or the RM50 combo. The RM20 just sounds like shit - they screwed the pooch with that one. And the RM50 combo sounds like ass too unless you disconnect the internal speaker and use an external cabinet.

The RM100 I had was fantastic rig. I had about a dozen modules at one point. Warning: the head is fucking heavy! A buddy of mine had the RM4 and it was way cool with a rack rig and power amp.

Can you clarify more about what you didn't like with the RM50 combo? Did you try it with the upper back panel installed?

Mine didn't come with an upper back panel. I just know it sounded a lot better with one of my external cabs.

Thanks. I was just wondering as I have an RM50 combo (and several other pieces of MTS gear) and like the combo fine. Do you generally seem to favor closed back cabinets? Maybe it's more of an open vs closed back cabinet issue?

I usually use closed back cabs. It could have also been the speaker - I think it was a 75-watt Celestion.
