I remember this story. We are talking about old school JCF!!!!
I also have a 1st year 5150II and it is bulletproof as well. We use it as backup for every gig we play.

The four 5150 lll I had were the best sounding high gain heads I've ever heard. I'm back with a 5150 again, which is rock solid reliable and sounds good, but not as good as the Fender 5150.

Two of the heads were low serial numbers (in the 500's) and the other two higher (4000's). They all suffered from the same problem; as long as you didn't connect anything to the effects loop and you avoided attaching the footswitch, they worked fine.

                I still pine for mine...

Well I've had the block letter head and the signature head, they sounded the same to me. I can't hear one bit of difference between the 5150/5150ll and their newer versions, the 6505/6505+ either. The only amp in all of that range that sounds different to me is the 5150 combo (I've never tried the 6505 combo). The combo sounds (to my ears) like it has a bit more gain.

I have a 5150 Signature head and a JCM 900 SL-X. I have a Rane ME-15B stereo 15 band EQ that I picked up to try to help out the 900 sound a little better and I was wondering if I should still get a BBE 422 to go with the 5150, run it through the EQ or run it through both?

The BBE will wake the 5150 up.

I miss my 5150. Not even sure why the heck I let it go. Mine never left the apartment, but there was a time when all of a sudden it just stopped working. It was a cold solder. But I bet every tube amp that old (mine was '96) will have some small problem here and there.

Cleveland metal, from the looks of the stang pics you are one lucky SOB. what ever happened was just right behind the drivers seat. Two feet closer to the front of the car and we wouldn't be reading your post. Damn!
