Funniest guitar thread I've read in a while.

I'll just add that I think this has been a surprisingly good year for music--if you know where to look. Dried, up, pathetic, assclowns, european bands, and even some modern processed lips and assholes put out good stuff this year. :ROTF:

I vow to leave my new sig line unchained (nothing stays the same, unchained) for the next 13 minutes, in tribute.

horns666- Thanks man, you really got me thinking. I'm probably almost 20 years older than you and you just gave me a boot in the ass to kind of reinforce things I've felt about everything in this life.

Oh absolutely, isnt it in relation to the 'modern' channel or setting on the recs? I think the difference is the modern rec channel sound and the 'modern' sound bills talking about are two different things. Only just picking that up now

no I mean the label "Modern hi-gain tone" is based on Mesa rectifier as it was the first amp that made that type of tone in the first place.

There are people who would give it a change but then there's a bunch of elitists who repeat their same shit over and over again.. "true metal rules, fuck that nu shit" etc. And people are thinking "well if those fans are that kind of a close minded morons then the music is probably like that too.. so fuck that shit".
You're suggesting this is a bad thing? I would rather things stayed this way than metal become mainstream. I mean, look at the negative effect all that "core" jibberjabber has had. Now every third person on the street is a self-proclaimed "metalhead". They're making proper metal appreciators like us look bad. All the "Brutal" people at my school, who claim Avenged Sevenfold is the most technical band of all time and that *Fill in long named metalcore band here* is the heaviest, make me sick. Another thing that annoys me is all of these people wear band t-shirts everyday and when I ask what their favourite album for that band is they can't even name the one for the shirt they are wearing. My criteria for wearing a band shirt is that I have to have listened to the album at least ten times through and I have to know all of the songs. If a person is wearing a Metallicrap t-shirt and they can't even name two songs off of that album, they should not be wearing that shirt.

I also hate improper use of the term metal, especially when classifying bands. Disturbed is NOT METAL; power chords and the ability to sound like a chimp make you look mentally handicapped, not "metal". This supposed image people attach to metal also makes me sick. I mean, yes there is an image, but when people go out of their way to change how they dress to fit in and look "metal", they aren't actually being metal at all. You have to be comfortable with how you dress. People should dress as themselves, not because that way is cool (I don't believe in cool by the way). For example; I know in the past Bill has brought up how to dress metal, to me that's more metal than how people dress nowadays. A pair of jeans (Levi's or something simple) and a dark coloured shirt is my definition, not all this crazy crap people wear nowadays. Mainstream "metal" seems to all be based on image now, and that is a major problem.

To me, metal isn't about what others think, it's about what you think. It's about the music, the emotions set off by the music, thoughts that are provoked by it and how it affects you. I listen to different bands depending on my mood. If I had a rough day I usually play things like Into Eternity, Quo Vadis or Kalmah because the sheer energy of the music helps me relax in a way nothing else can. If I'm feeling great I listen to music like Kamelot, Lost Horizon, Sonata Arctica or Therion because they help me feel even better. I don't listen to metal because it's crazy or fast or heavy, I listen to it because it makes me happy. People always say "How can you listen to that stuff, I think it's horrible" to which I always reply "It's fine that you don't like it. It's all a matter of opinion anyway.". I go by the live and let live rule. I don't make fun of what people listen to as long as they don't make fun of me. If they do it's must unfortunate for them, especially if they listen to mainstream garbage like that Christian Pop-Punk crap or (c)rap/hip-hoppity music.

There's another thing. Us metallers can make fun of our own music and still enjoy it. God forbid if you made fun of those "metalhead" kid's bands or a hip-hopper's groups. They'd start threatening you with beating you up even though both they and you'd know it's all a show on their part. especially the wanna-be gangster rappers. "You homie, I'm gonna bust a cap in you.". What? From your Supersoaker water pistol that you painted so it looks real?

Well, 600+ words later I think I'm done for now.
                                "Dear Dr. Bill,
I work with a woman who is about 5 feet tall and weighs close to 450 pounds and has more facial hair than ZZ Top." - Jack The Riffer

"OK, we can both have Ben..joint custody. I'll have him on the weekends. We could go out in my Cobra and give people the finger..weather permitting of course.." -Bill Z. Bub
