  • Pc Speakers

I'm considering buying some new speakers for my pc out in the shed and was wondering whether there were some speakers better suited to guitar type setups such running a line 6 pod or a GX. I'm looking at a pair of desktop speakers no sub woofer. Looking for good quality not budget entry level speakers(which I have now).

Any recommendations or things I should look out for?
    Cheers

I recently picked up a pair KRK Rokit 5 self powered nearfield monitors for around $350 Canadian and I couldn't be happier..

KRK Systems has been Behind Great Music for almost 35 years. Learn more and shop for Studio Monitors, Headphones, Subwoofers, Speakers, Monitoring Applications and Room Correction Technology.

I also bought a small Yamaha mixer (MG102c http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/mus...mixers/mg102c/) so that I could mix the PC and Toneport and whatever else I decide to throw at it in the future.

I bought a Philips sub-woofer/two satellite speakers for 45 bucks at Walmart

Digitech RP-250 sounds killer through them (practice volume only).

Since I noodle through it in the basement, it's perfect, and the cat can shit on it, I don't care.

        hehe

          All good ideas.

I have definitely considered a set of monitors although this might be a bit of overkill. Not sure if I can get that brand down this way, I'll have to check it out although price wise it's pushing the limits of what I want to spend. Even if I could get that brand they will probably be $500 what with the aussie dollar these days.

I've seen behringer ones on ebay for about $200. Not sure how good of quality they will be. Not much experience with monitors

I do at times run the pod 2.0 through a stereo. I've noticed that the pod instruction book says that that it is recommended to use a di box to level the signal out?? or something similar. I'm running it into a microphone input on the front (same size as a guitar jack). Thing is the stereo is to the left and behind of where I sit. I would prefer to have the sound directly in front of me.

I just re read that again computer into stereo. I'll definitely have to check that out. How would you hook it up?

          Any more suggestions, keep'em coming

Aside from monitors, Logitech makes some good speakers. I have the Z-2300 system and can't complain.

I have a pair of Altec Lansings from a Gateway 2000 (1999 - 2000 era) with separate woofers (tiny - 4"?) and tweaters that are very nice. Some things were made well in the past, and are probably quite cheap.

Are you going to be recording also? If so, get self powered monitors from m-audio and save yourself from buying speakers twice. BTW, I have a set of M-Audio BX8A and use it with my XT Pro when not using my main rig and it is just crushing. I believe, as thebeggar stated earlier, that KRK are pretty good also and at half the price.

No I will not be recording. I checked out Those KRK's on ebay. One pair started at $800 the other at $1400. Needles to say they are definitely out of the equation.

These 2 look pretty decent for my requirements

You are shooting too high on the KRK side.

Yeah I think you were looking at the wrong model of KRK's. The model I have is the Rokit 5 G2.

I have the Creative Gigaworks T20's that I bought a week before the KRK's. They just weren't really what I was looking for sound quality wise. The KRK's sound just as transparent as my semi expensive home theater speakers that cost several hundred dollars more.

Thanks for putting me onto the right link. I checked out some online stores but they were still $350 AU each. One day when I've gotta enough money to renovate (which will probably never happen) and I get a guitar room built on these would be ideal.

For now I think I'm gonna go with the T 20's. I don't need anything spectacular just something a bit better quality than what I'm using now. Plus these have an input jack on the front that I can plug the pod straight into.

There's heaps of different options, I was checking out a topic on computer speakers on another forum and someone posted this

Not necessarily what I'm looking for but these days you can get jacks and converters to hook anything up. Pretty sure if I looked I could get a guitar jack to RCA plug.

Now if I could just work out how to win the lotto......
