  • Jackson amps?

Anyone have experience with Jackson amps ? Im not talking Lee Jackson, but Jackson branded amps. I believe they were made by laney. Im curious how they sound and how many were made? Are they rare? What years where they made?
I was told it sounds like a hot rodded marshall. ?

    Thanks!

There were essentially two series. The originals were the rack mounted 50 and 100 watt all tube heads made in England. I owned three myself, and could never get a good tone out of any of them. Very muddy and dark no matter how you adjusted the settings. These came out somewhere in the late 80's to early 90's. By the mid 90's they introduced their USA designed "Reference" series which were also 50 or 100 watt all tube heads plus they had 2X12 combos. I still have a 50 watt head, and everyone of them I owned sounded pretty good, as good as a Marshall JCM 800 or 900. To me, those were improvements on the original.

Grover built some one off pre-amps and possibly even a complete head in the 80's, I remember seeing a rig like that on Robb Lane's old site. But they were never marketed for mass production.

I had a 100 watt JG-3 and it was very bad ass.It was in a cab but could be rack mounted very easily had the allen screws on the face.
Best I could tell it was based on the Laney AOR.The were built by Laney in England.
          Mine was an 85-86 IIRC.
Lots of mids and tight low end.The cleans were pretty good but cranked it really shined.Very Marshall like IMO.
I have a deal pending on a JG-3 50 watt full stack I just have to wait on the seller to make his move.
          Really? well screw Mark Twain.

The guy is firm at 1000 bucks he bought it new and never used it much so its like new.He has two more Jackson cabs too.
This guy has some old Jackson and SD Charvel guitars that I would love to have.
He has a rock memorabilia collection that smokes.
