'Mini' amps

Over the years of my playing, there have been times when I have had the necessity of down sizing (a great deal) to something very small. In the 80's, when I was traveling the world in the military, I bought a Scholtz Rockman so that I could play my Jackson anywhere I wanted. I eventually hooked in my distortion pedal to really ramp it up . I haven't really played at all the past few years and didn't feel like hooking into my Peavey, in a rather confined space, just to mess around for a while since I'm starting to get back into it again. I happened across a %40-50 off sale at my local music store. It was here that I found the VOX amPlug (Metal) http://www.voxamps.com/amplug/. It normally sold for $50-60, but the guy gave it to me for $25. I figured what the F. Even if it sux it was only $25. This thing is about the palm of your hand in size and plugs directly into your guitar. Throw on some headphones and you're done. I was very surprised. After I messed around with the gain and saturation I got a really raunchy crunchy sound. It made me smile . Anyone else have a similar toy in their arsenal?

Yeah, I'm a sucker for those kinda things. I had a Pandora PX4, which had some great sounds and also backing tracks. I just bought a Pocket Pod, which also sounds great - I even used it at band practice yesterday, plugged into the PA, and it sounded great there, too, though not as good as it does through headphones. It goes through AAA batteries fast, though.

As I am in IT I do carry my laptop with me always. I have Line6 TonePort UX1, whitch is cheap USB guitar / mic "interface", where the actual PC software does the modelling. It has amasing set of sounds and models and it is really tweakable. It goes well with headphones as well as into PA (I have actually played an gig with my laptop + that).

For me that is as compact as it goes, but I gotta try those Vox thingy's some times.

For me, it's my Boss Micro BR. It's about the size of an iPod and you can record with it.

When I first got started in this biznez way back when, Radio Shack had these ultra-cheapo little little grey box mini amps which sounded like crap but it was very distorted.. We plugged a then new Tube Screamer inline and it would scream.. Take that little bugger and hold it in front of the pickups with everything cranked, use it for a slide.. Mr Jimi woulda been proud.. Not much of a good amp for anything but it was fun making those gosh-awful weird noises with it..
.. The title line made me remember those.. We were 14ish and it was way cool..
.. Now-a-days there's a lot of options but like another poster said, A Micro BR with the modeling it has would be a good choice with options to record somethin schweet that showed up inna jam.. I just picked one up and it's a neat little unit if ya can work within it's limitations.. For $100 ANIB it was a no brainer.. The MP3 playback speed control is very handy.. It ain't very loud, tho'..
