It wasn't as 'easy' to play as a JCM800, you had to be much more careful with the controls, but there were a whole bunch of great sounds in there, they just took a bit more getting.
+1 - love mine, esp. for the price!

I'll try to get to it later (it's under some kids stuff now - funny how that happens), but here's some stuff to prep you for what you're in for:

I'm one of the mods at Laney Posse, and it never occurred to me to post the link. DUH!

          I'm not Ron!

Also, Laney Watts seemed to be smaller than Marshall Watts, have you seen how many of these Mr Iommi uses !!

Spend enough time with it, and you'll like it.
So if I mated my AOR 50 head to transformers I have left behind from a 100 watt 1979 Marshall, what would I have? (maybe use 6550's as well?)

              Do it, or bad idea?

I'm going to use some nice chickenhead knobs. I was thinking of either cream, black, yellow or green. What do you guys think?

                  ...or maybe even red?

The green don't look right. They're the wrong shade and don't match the tolex. I'm not too fond of the yellow with the green tolex either. I think I'll order a set of red, and a set of white.

Hey, I'll buy them both off you if you don't need them. I prefer the plastic one, but I like to keep my options open ya know.

I have a 100-watt version at practise. Yet to find a matching cab to it, seems to overpower the stock marshalls a bit.

I wouldn't even think about this without knowing everything about both amps .. it's certainly not a cheap way to get a 100W Laney.

Part of the appeal of the Laney is the brutal time it gives its EL34s, and how they break up early and then scream for mercy ... 6550s could be counterproductive and leave it sounding harsh

Besides, I'm pretty sure there are other components that are different between a 50 and 100 watt than just the trannies. Definitely not worth it considering the low prices and availability of 100 watt AORs.

                              When it rains it pours.

In addition to the guitar neck I received today, I also got all of the stuff I ordered for my new Laney headshell that I'm building. I've had the logo for a while, thanks to elysianfield. Today, the tolex from Lopoline arrived, and my package from Weber arrived with the rubber feet, two sets of knobs, and the black leather handle. It all looks very colorful, like candy.

Now I just have to wait until the amp is back from the shop, so I can measure it up, and build the box.
