Boss DS-1 Seeing Eye Mod?

Has anyone tried this mod on their pedal? It's supposed to be modeled after the Keeley mod, and I just did it, but it just doesn't sound like the clips I have heard. My buddy did the same mod, and we get the same results: a fuzzy type distortion. If this mod has worked for you out there, what are you running it through? (tube/solid state?, in front of the amp/in the loop?)

For me It's in front of my 100 watt all tube head, will try behind the amp, and in my old 150 watt solid state, cheers.
