Amp Regrets...

I owned some very nice amps. Too many to count. But just like girls in my old days. I have no regrets at all. It took the bad and good to find the "right" one, or the one I can live with..
If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing. Fortunately, the amps I did let go are pretty availuble such as a 5150, Recto, Mesa Mrk III and various Marshalls. So I try one every now and then to see if I missed something. Then, I discover that sometimes my memory of an amp is actually better than they actually sound...if that makes sense. But if I had to pick..I guess it would be my mint Marshall 2210s, or 2203s. Neither I would trade for my stuff.
Guitars is a different story. I wish I bought alot more Les Pauls @ $300 bucks a pop..and kept them."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

I've only ever had 2 good main amps, and I still have them.
- JCM 50w combo that I've owned since 1985
- Block letter 5150
The one I had before the Marshall was a really crappy Gorilla LOL - remember those, old dudes?"Quiet, numbskulls, I'm broadcasting!" -Moe Howard, "Micro-Phonies" (1945)

5150 Combo... weighed too much but it sounded better than my 5150 head.
Framus Cobra...with what I know now about getting a decent sound I wish I'd had more patience with it. The sound was almost there when I knew nothing, I reckon I'd nail it now that I know a little more.
5150lll...the best sound I've ever had, the worst reliability.

The '57 tweed Fender Tremolux I got for 75 bucks on Maui or the '61 brownface Fender Deluxe I got from the dump. The Deluxe went in a trade for an early '90s RR neckthru Pro. Maybe my first real amp- a '61 blonde Fender Bassman with a 2x12 blonde cab that I bought for $40 and spent $70 to get it tubed and tweaked. It sounded killer with my '74 Les Paul Deluxe but I didn't really know what I had at the time. Oh yeah, then there was the ' 61 tweed Fender Champ I got from a pawn shop on Maui for 75 bucks. That little thing screamed. It went in a trade for a Les Paul. The '64 blackface Fender Princeton Reverb I got from the dump I traded for a brand new Marshall 900 1960 cab right out of the box. I paid $70 cash with the amp. You would be surprised how many amps and guitars end up in the dump. I have probably gotten a dozen guitars, a handful of amps, some vintage pedals, some drums and even a nice trumpet! Who knows how much stuff just get wasted. The all time story is a local guy found a '54 Strat with the case at a nearby dump. I always tell everyone to check out anything that looks like an old suitcase. Win a few lose a few, it is always fun. You never know what you'll run into if you keep your eyes peeled.

I've had plenty of other boogies since, and maybe it's just my brain messing with me, but that thing had it all.
I don't have any amp regrets, I have a Mark IIc+ and a Mark IV thats about all I need. But I do regret selling a '83 Gibson Explorer.Last edited by themisfit138; 02-23-2009, 12:14 AM.

Here's a crusher. I bought the Marshall Silver jubilee 2555 Full stack brand new when they first came out. I paid around $2500.00 for the full setup. A few years later I got Married and wasn't playing full time anymore. My brother brought his friend over and he offered me like $1500.00 for it and I sold it!! I'm such a dumb ass!!! I didn't need the money, they were just sitting there not bothering anyone. Well I kick myself everyday for that stupid move! I still have my original reciept and the hang tags.
The moral of the story is Don't ever sell your toys, you may regret it for the rest of your life!!
The only bright side to this story is if I didn't sell them I may have never come across the Randall RGT 100 ES tube heads! They scream!Last edited by Slik_Karl; 02-23-2009, 08:14 AM.2008 DXMG in Gray w/ Duncan Mayhem set
