I have an extra empty 4x12 that i picked up because I thought it was a good deal at the time, and i can't pass up a good deal.($75) i have had it about ten years and never did anything with it. Its covered with that thin black carpet, with a metal grate on the front, hard plastic corners, has a few cig burns on it. Kustom or Community brand. I forget. Anyway I put it on CL a few times,a few tire kickers but no sale at $50. So fuck it I have two 12's here. I'm thinking of wiring it up and using it but that carpet shit has to go. I'm thinking some snake skin tolex. Anyone done it?

I've done Fender and Marshall cabs. It's not that difficult. Check out Mojo for supplies http://www.mojomusicalsupply.com/
You want snake skin? Here's one of their offerings:

Well i finally got er done. What do ya think??
I'm going to order a Marshall style black grill cloth for the front instead of the metal grate. That way you won't be able to see into the cabinet. Oh yeah and some speakers too.Last edited by broken_fusion; 03-21-2009, 11:06 PM.

Looks great...quite an improvement. Always thought my plain black cabinet was boring...you've planted an idea in my head.

Here is a good step-by-step.
Dude - that cab looks friggin gorgeous! Did you move the jackplate to the corner or was it always there?
750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...
Why do I still want MORE?

Stripping the carpet was the hardest part. Luckily all the glue had dried up but it was stapled all around the edges. So i had to pull all the staples out. Then i used an air sander to sand all the old glue off. Using Tolex with a pattern probably is not the best stuff to use on your first try. I had a few seams and making the pattern match up at the seams takes some work. If it was just a plain color it would have been much easier. I probably have about 3-4 hours in the whole project. The cab is a Soundtech BTW. Think i could get $50 for it now?
