Yep, what Tim said. I never owned anything but the RM100 head but have heard from others that the combos weren't as good. I have lots of MTS modules for mine and have bought all of them used, never a new one. There are tons of them on E-Bay and the MTS Forum like Tim said. In some cases such as SL+ and XTC modules, I have bought stock ones as well as modded ones by Pete

I swapped speakers in the amp as well - didn't help - farty low end. It's just a bad cabinet design - which is pretty wierd given that it looked like a pretty typical open back cab.
And whatever you do, don't buy modules new. They can be had dirt cheap used at the MTS forum and Ebay.Don't blame Congress or the President - blame yourselves. ~Newc

I hear from a friend that the band I might be joining might require rack gear.. If that's the case I might go with the Tri Axis pre amp, TC G Major, not sure which power amp though.. Fuck this shit is so damn confusing! Any suggestions! Thanks to everyone who's mentioned anything, I've tried a bunch of amp and suggestions so far. I've yet to play one of the randalls though, I haven't been able to find any.Originally posted by horns666The only thing I choke during sex is, my chicken..especially when I wanna glaze my wife's buns.

Sounds weird but there are bands out there that require certain gear. A friend of mine was in one that wanted him to use a head and cab along with a Gibson V. He was a Jackson/MP-1 rack gear kind of guy. Stupid but whatever, he did it. Anyway, if its rack gear you can still use the Randall MTS modules as they make a rack mount pre-amp version of that amp, RM-4 You get 4 instead of 3 channels that way.Rudy

I think he was just commenting on the "require rack gear" I've never heard of such a thing either, but hey... Stranger things have happened. If you go the rack route, hope you got roadies luggin that shit everywhere...
I used to hate that more than anything, luckily I only played a few gigs with my rack, but it was a bitch to say the least!
And if you do go that route, get a good parametric EQ, I used to have a TC 1140s that was absolutely kick ass! I think I saw a few on the bay for pretty cheap lately.
Good luck...Don't blame Congress or the President - blame yourselves. ~Newc

If you do rack gear, either get a roadie or break the rack up into separate racks.
I have 2 racks: a 6-space rack (2-space preamp, 2-space effects unit, 1-space switcher for the preamp, 1-space power supply) and a 2-space rack for my power amp. I only have to run one cable and power to the power amp so it's pretty simple.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Uberschall with a set of 6 matched tung sol 12ax7s...game over!
The absolute undisputed champion of non-more metal amps..worthy of a dedicated thread of my true love of it! We have renewed our wedding vows and been in total fuck since!
The ACTIVE tone controls are extreme and yet completely musical. The layout looks so simple, but yet it's much like a very interactive 4 band parametric section! You'll drop about 2k for one, but it's a keeper. They're coveted and in demand for good reason, so you won't lose any money.
BTW, It's the ONLY amp I know that you can blindly turn knobs at random and sound still peachy. It refuses to sound bad. I'm certain Rudy can confirm that!
I never tried the Randall RM100, MTS with modules, ect. But Gus G certainly sounded great with it. But good players sound great in general. Even tho Randall got serious with tube amps around the time the Cyclone came out. They don't hold their resale like other amps do. Regardless of their coolness, they have a resale status above a tube Crate and under or equal to the Peavey flagships. I'm not in the market, but that's always been the case with Randalls IMO. This may be a concern..
The idea of piecing a rack together is great. Since heads are more in demand these days, there's many bargains in rack gear. They're vesatile, affordbale, interchaneable, and most important..the "set and forget" consistency of your favorite tones in a pinch. That alone was so valuable to me, because so much time was invested actually playing/writing/practicing instead of unsuccessfully trying to dial the tone I had the prior day..when I didn't touch a damn thing but the volume control.
If you're going with a rack, buy cheap, because you may have to sell cheap. Things go in circles, so racks may be in demand at some point. Since you're young, I'm focused on getting the best bang for the buck that you won't lose money on.
Lots great advice and quality stuff suggested by super credible guys, but invest in something everyone knows and loves..Marshalls are a no brainer, and you'll never be stuck with a Bogner or Soldano...if you have the means.
Good luck and keep us posted. You're a very good player, so half the battle is already in your hands..

My friend has this current setup and it sounds absolutely amazing, and if I were to pull the plug and buy the pieces, it would be this:
Furman Power Conditioner
6 Space Rack
Midi Footswitch
Mesa Recto Cab
T.C. G Major
Mesa TriAxis
Power Amp (Not sure which one I would get)
The only problem would be finding a power amp, since I'm not sure which I should get, he's using that VHT something something (yeah, I'm a n00b with names :P), and he previously had the mesa power amp which was a real tone sucker compared to his current power amp.
Everyone has given some great advice and I thank you all for it, I'm a bit uneducated when it comes to amps and specs, but I'm a really big tone nazi, so I'm pretty hard to deal with .Originally posted by horns666The only thing I choke during sex is, my chicken..especially when I wanna glaze my wife's buns.
