He has that knack of nailing tones to sound just like the record..he always did. The bastid."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

The Nitro is more saturated and if you swap out some preamp tubes I have found I can get it to sound much like the PM but with more bottom and a bit rounder mid.
The Pro Mod with a pedal boosting the front end can get some of the Nitro saturation but not as defined.
If it were me I would get the SC because the gain is there if you need it but that is me...
I dont use a ton of gain but I like it on tap if I want to go there... And if you get the comp and want more gain you will end up spending on something to boost it so the money will be spent anyway...

Ok lets talk speakers. Right now I'm running the Quick Rod through a Marshall 1960 cab with Celestion GT75's. Sounds real good. I'm going to load my other cab (the snake skin cab I just recovered in the other thread) I was looking at the Hellatone 60's (Broken in Vintage 30's) But then i was checking out the Eminence website. I like the Texas Heats, The Wizard and the Governors. Some guys on the Splawn site swear by the Texas Heats and Governors in an X pattern. Decisions Decisions....

I sure like the clips I hear of those splawn guitars. they are impressive sounding. I dont have an extra $3K laying around for one. I already have two amp setups. a mesa road king and a rack setup of marshall stuff. I would love to have a splawn, but damn, I just cant justify another one."clean sounds are for pussies" - Axewielder

Well... by next Satuday, I will be a proud owner of a Nitro myself. I am getting it used but, one thing that is really nice is that it is a Nitro with a Quickrod Midslope control. Apparently Scott will not do this mod anymore because it is a little too much work and not worth the money to him to do it. I am really stoked to get my hands on it. The nice thing is that the guy who is selling it had a Youtube clip...
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
I was just glad I was able to get some scratch together for this. I always wanted one and I got nabbed by the cops and had to fork over some cash for a speeding ticket a couple of weeks ago. Thank god for performance bonuses.

I did some more research on Splawns today, and damn. they are COOL! Listened to some clips on youtube. they sound really frickin great. Maybe I will order one this fall. get it for myself for chirstmas. the Quickrod is what I will get I think. I can go into this in steps financially. I have a Laney 4x12 cab that I can run it into. I can get the amp first, then later on get the splawn cab for it if I want. I could always try and scoop up a used marshall cab too I suppose.
any quickrod owners here?????"clean sounds are for pussies" - Axewielder
