Wow..that sounds very nice. I would love to play them. Are they at all similiar to the VHT tones. I can dial up and nice dark but edgy VH tone with those..and the clips put me in mind of them. I'm sure they have they're own unique voice..but are they in the same ballpark?

From what I hear on clips, the Splawn seem to have more character, maybe less distortion, not sure about the latter.

I think they are tastier sounding than VHT

No... more like a modded clear Marshall. Think "Slash" Paradise City imo.. but then
Mickey makes about 4 different voiced amps...we only messed with this
        new 2 channel one.

The Pro mod actually reminds me of a Deliverence... But 2 Channels... Good call John.

I've been really interested in picking up a Splawn. Does anyone know if the prices they provide on the website are set in stone, or are they willing to negotiate a bit?

well there is something like a 16 week wait last i heard. i doubt they are cutting any deals. Try to pick up a used one. I saved about $500 off a new one without the wait and it is in perfect condition.

Hey guys, what would be my option with Splawn amps if I'm looking for a hot-rodded-plexi kinda tone?

Something I can use with no OD... Guitar plugged straight to the amp. I'm a Marshall DSL50 amp, I still like my amp but for me, to make it sounds to my taste, I need to reduce the gain on it and push it harder with a TS9 or SD1.

Splawn newbie here who wants to learn! Thanks in advance.

The quick rod on channel (gear) 1 has a great plexi tone.
If your interested you need to go here. There are tons of sound clips around.

The Pro Mod sounds more like a Plexi to my ears. The difference between the QR and the PM is really just the tubes and one resistor.

I take it the Nitro is the highest gain one?

yeah. it is more saturated than the other models but if you throw a few different combos of preamp tubes in as I have you can get the gain to taper more and even sound more like its brothers. Mine sounds like my Pro Mod did more than it did when I gor it... well, a Pro Mod with more gain and a tighter bottom that is.

I swapped out the el34b's that came with mine and put in KT88's so that also changes the tone too.

KT88's are the only way to fly IMO. Not much on EL34's myself.

I really want a gain monster like a Framus Cobra. But, I know that won't do everything I want. Too broke too worry much about that stuff, but I do try to stay informed so I can dream appropriately, haha...

Seems like the Nitro would be really good for the Priest Tribute I'm in. My CAE3+se actually does well for it. Just too heavy (weightwise) with the VHT2150 and the rest of the rack effects. I actually worry something will malfunction too. Lotsa stuff going on with switching, MIDI pedals, power supplies etc.

Just a simple head and a delay pedal would be nice. "KISS" ya know...

OK, I am pretty sure I'm going to get one of the 50 watters with KT88s.

I guess this means I have a choice between a Super Comp (a single channel version of the Nitro), the Competition (single channel version of a Pro Mod).

Decisions decisioons.... I'm leaning towards the Competition (KT88 equipped of course) since it's a hair cheaper, and I'm not sure I need as much gain as the Nitro.

Anyone have any experience with either of these 50 watters?
