  • Found new Bugera 1960 & 1990 demo vids

For any interested, I found some demo video clips of the 2 new Bugera model guitar amps.

    1960 - http://www.premierguitar.com/Video/2..._Amp_Demo.aspx

    1990 - http://www.premierguitar.com/Video/2..._Amp_Demo.aspx

I think they sound pretty good (even with the out of tune guitar on the one vid) While the 1960 isn't really my thing, the 1990 sounds pretty nice. 900 meets 6260.

That guy talked too much. didn't get a clear idea of the 1960 and thought the 1990 was very buzzy. Always suspect when they do more talking than playing the product.

bugera is owned by behringer...that should solve any type of misguided gas for these things(nevermind the piss poor demo's).

Except that actual reviews of the gear itself has been much more positive regarding quality than you would think...

Some of it was true with the first run of amps, but there have been changes and build design flaws appear to have been fixed. I push my 333XL to it's limits every time I use it....practice and shows, and thus far it has not dissappointed at all.

The key words there are "owned by" and are built in their own completely separate factory that only do Bugera Amps.

I can attest to that 1st hand.

I wouldn't say cheaply constructed, I'd put them in the well constructed with some cheaper parts. No cheaper parts than Marshall uses these days, and other than the pots and jacks (which are on par with what the guys at Marshall or Line 6 use these days) the cheaper parts are purely cosmetic, which honestly, I'd rather have a great sounding amp than one with Metal logos and dress up kits that just sounds "Eh" like many of the pretty looking amps out there. All their amps do have real ceramic tube sockets, so they didn't even cut corners there like many others do.

I agree these demos aren't very telling at all, and I can't wait for more to show up so I can make a more informed opinion on these 2 models. I will stand by the Bugera name though as mine does a serious amount of ass kicking with loads of headroom to spare.

Not going to clip your qoute, VX3.

I agree that it is sad to see some of the best names go to bad construction to cut costs.
                    The market is BrootLZ!

I am just fiddling, but take pride in the hand wiring, the point to point, and turret board construction methods that I and others use.
We defend it religiously because it is tough, and serviceable.

I won't deny the sound and features of some of these amps.
That Bugera does have great tone!

And there are also some outstanding (tough) PCB amps out there.
I'll stay with my mud-and-stick methods.
It has let me tinker to tone quite well, but it ain't profitable from the man-hour perspective.

Cyg, I definately agree with you that hand wiring is preferred among most, but I wouldn't call this style "bad" construction as many suggest that these amps will all fail and are generally junk. With the price point they're aiming at with these amps, I feel the value is still worth much more when looking at many other choices within the same bracket with a better tone than those. I'm in no way saying these are of build standards of a 2-3k amp. But the internal components aren't second rate radio shack crap either.

**if you lived closer, I'd love to let you look over/screw with my DOA 5150**

                        OK.
                        Good construction with cheap parts.

Good news about the tube sockets.
                        I didn't know that.
I much prefer a nice thick bakelite or ceramic over any surface mount.
Those plastic cliff style jacks are one thing I can't seem to get around.
I have to use them to avoid chassis-grounding, but I don't like them.
                        They just don't feel right.
And I never liked the Marshall plastic jacks.

I would like to find some isolation washers for the good old switchcrafts. Tough as nails!

                            Cyg....LOL! that's a better description.

Tim..... Wouldn't be you if you didn't do the boutique snob bash Bugera thing. But you may be right, people who work for microsoft should know what junk is first hand by now.

I forgot to include the most important Bugera feature, I've had it about a month and a half and it's already paid for itself. How many other amps that sound this good can do that?

And it wouldn't be you if you weren't speaking out of complete ignorance. You really have no clue if you think I'm a boutique snob. I promise you that I do not require boutique gear to play.

I've been suckered by Behringer myself far too many times. Their stuff is unreliable. Period. I know from first hand experience. I've had about a 30% failure rate with their products. There is no way I'd use anything they make in a live situation.

Just because yours is working doesn't mean it isn't cheap Chinese made junk. But I hope yours serves you well - I hate to see people throw money away.

And it's not just Behringer - the new Eganater stuff is cheap Chinese made junk as well. The dudes at my local GC were talking about how many they've had come back and some that never made it out on to the floor because they were DOA.
