i need a better cab that i can also trans port easily (i live in a second floor apartment and drive a mustang, a 4x12 cab is really just too much). right now i'm using my head to power the two 12's in an old crate amp and the tone just isn't good enough (go figure). i'd like to get a 2x12 premade cab but they're like 3-400 bucks but i really want to try some swamp thang speakers from eminence. spending 400 bucks on a cab just to turn around and throw out perfectly good speakers would be retarded so...

i'm looking into building a custom 2x12 cabinet using eminence swamp thang speakers. do any of you guys know what kind of wood i should use for the best sound quality or best tone? i read something about some companies using birchwood.

should i make the box sealed or leave it half open?

i think a sheet of 1/2" birch for like 40 bucks should be okay for the wood, the speakers are like 190, and the covering will be about $70. all in all the project should be about 350 bucks in the end.

marshall has an offering for around that price but i doubt the quality would be as good as something handmade with the speakers i want.

good tone isn't something you learn, its something you develop.

Birch is the norm. Unless you've already purchased the speakers, check out Avatar's pricing with the Swamp Thangs installed.

You could try here too. I bought a 4x12 but they have 2x12 also.

yeah they do look the same. i think im gonna get something like this http://www.lopoline.com/catalog/item...52/6615796.htm for the eminence speakers.

hopefully the tone will be a crapton better than the "budget" 2x12's at guitar center made with God only knows what and powered by speakers im not fond of.
