  • XXX Power Amp In

I was under the impression you could use a modeling device and plug directly into the power amp in on a XXX bypassing the pre-amp. When I tried it the other day all I got was silence.

Anyone ever try this and have it work? Anything I should know about doing it?

How were you plugging it in? If you were using the loop, then you might need a cable plugged into the loop out to activate that section of the amp.

Just going straight in the return. I turned the levels up on it as well. I'll try putting a cable in the send as well to see if that works. Thanks

1+ you gotta to send and return
I know the old saying that the value of an opinion is generally inversely proportional to the strength with which it is held.

You normally don't need to do send and return on the effects loop. Power amp in is the same as an effects return, so you'd need only one cable.

If its anything like the Marshall Mode 4 you will have to plug a male 1/4" plug into the input jack. When I tried to use the Mode 4 for power only by going into the effects return jack it was completely silent. I plugged a male plug into the input jack and the amps power section turned on. It was some kind of safe mode.

I'll give all these suggestions a shot this weekend and see what works. I won't be down to our rehearsal space until then. Thanks everyone.

I've had the jsx used in this way, loop on and an mp1 plugged into the return. Probably had my send cable still plugged in though.

I have run my XTL into my XXX return since the XTL came out...

Just "out" of the XTL into the return, with the return vol turned right up...No need for a cable in the send...I also find it best running the power amp on full and using the XTL volume to set the overall volume.

I must be something else thats wrong...
