    Hey guys

while I'm waiting on a Mako Mak2 to surface to buy and for Mike Fortin www.fortinamps.com to be done his prototype amps, Mike suggested I get an 800 for him to modify into a fuckin killing machine.

I tried to buy a few but they ended up being worthless basket cases that bedroom amp tinkeres just fucked right up, Anyhow I got one that is in super clean condition! a 100 watt "canadian" 800, it's fuckin cool!

So I get it home and plug it in and WOW thing will take your head off, I put a cheap marshall G'uvnor pedal in front of it and holy shitballs! it sounds AMAZING! I had an 800 about 11 years ago and it never sounded this good, EVER. So I can't wait to hear what this thing will be like when Mike is done with it!

Anyhow Mike will be modifying this thing into a godamn monster!

I'll post clips when its done! I plan on dressing it up and changing the front faceplate and putting it in a new headbox with the same slime green tolex as my 4x12! it's going to kill!

This is a video clip of one of Mike's stripped down "Bones" amp, he was going to bring out a metal version called "Metal Bones" but is bringing out an amp called the NataS which is a totally designed from the ground up to be a metal amp. My 800 will be a sort of test bed for the tones from this amp before the prototype, Mike told me my 800 will be even "more" than his metal bones was in terms of brutality hahahahahahahaha It's going to be fuckin CRAZY

Hmmm, I'm kinda unimpressed with the video clip, AND with the clips posted on his site. Either he has to get some new and better clips, or the amp is pretty bland and thin sounding. Have you heard some other stuff from him? I'm just wondering because, after owning just about every high gain metal amp known to man, why would this impress you more?

Just off the top of my head, I seem to remember you going through an Uber, a K-Tre, and a Diamond just recently. What else have you had?

The metal clips sound weak. The plexi and medium gain was cool.I wouldn't fuck up that Marshall by modding it. If you like the sound in the metal clips... a Marshall ain't for you.

I'd just get a JVM if you want a "heavy" sounding Marshall, or a Splawn Nitro

        Buy an Uberschall!
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
        Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

I am a 800 kinda tone guy and I have been through lots of modded Marshalls and also have owned Marshall based boutique amps. I have a Nitro now and I love it. Check out clips on youtube or the splawn site.

+1. Leave the 800s for future generations.

"Grandpa, what does an 800 sound like?"

"Gee, I don't know. The only ones I've heard were mod'd into basket cases"

+1 on the Splawn Nitro. I have an 85 JCM 800 I was ready to dump a ton of money into with Voodoo mods. I decided to keep it stock since its great at what it does and picked up a Splawn Quick Rod. So now I have a hot rodded Marshall sound with the Splawn and I still have my original JCM 800.

That amp looks KILLER! Throw a pedal in front and be done, you'll love it. Modding is forever...kinda

CAREFUL! If that Bugera ad touches the Marshall it's liable to burst into flames.

I'm for not modding it...they take pedals great in the front so just grab some...a Boss SD-1 and GE1 is all you'll need TS-9 also sound great.

The other thing you can do which is totally reversible is get a Soldano HotMod, they replace the middle pre-amp tube and get more gain than you'll ever ned w/o the use of a pedal in front. I had one in my JCM800 2203 for a while but prefer it stock

Let the man build his own amp designs and get a name for himself, and leave a true classic like the 800 unmolested!

Bah you guys are all sticks in the mud, sorry I posted this, Fuck the purity of an amp, there are thousands of these godamn things around, they are not unicorns!

                        get over it!

besides, it's already been slightly modified by the original owner and it needed some work like new power supply caps and some pots/jacks.

It's really hard to judge an amp from a clip, I personally like it, and I obviously had issues with the previous amps I had not cutting through/reliability issues so those are gone!!! gone! If I wanted another Uber I'd get one, but I didin't fully warm up to the the way the amp sounded with my guitars so it's gonzo!

You guys can have you 80's hair tone!

Besides who better to get to work on your amp than someone that worked at Marshall for 15 years!

Mike will make this thing roar! and more!

Zeegs keep in mind that this is NOT a metal amp, this is more of a plexi style amp that can go into metldown mode, but the players are also NOT metal players, for Christ's sake that guy making the videos is in "the Salads"

When I get the amp I'll make some clips!

Bill I'm not getting a JVM! so fack off *hugs* you guys can keep your ubers!
