  • Mesa F-30

I tried it out yesterday, and it sounded so good, it was bugging me all night, so I went back today and got it. It's in super minty condition.

    Sleep!!, That's where I'm a viking!!

That's the one with EL84s instead of 6L6s, right? I tried it once and it was way too punchy for me.

Yes EL84s. When you say too punchy, do you mean too much damn bottom end? It does indeed have a ridiculous low end, but speakers can make all the difference. I'm using a 2X12 with V30s, and it sounds much more balanced than it did through a 1960a cab at the store (g12t75s). Still, personal preference counts for a lot too.

That could be it. I tried out the 1x12 combo at the store and it was all bass and mids, just coming at my ears like a wall. Maybe I just prefer a little "spongier" attack.

You should put up some clips.

Man, I still haven't done any clips of the Carlsbro Evo yet. I'm gonna see if I can get a couple of clips this weekend. The only problem I have at this point, is that both my cabs are 16 ohms, but the F-30 doesn't have a 16 ohm tap. So, I can rewire one of my cabs in parallel, but then I can't use the Marshall or Carlsbro with the cab I rewire, because they don't have 4 ohm taps. I suppose I should just get myself an 8 ohm cab.

Anyone wanna trade me a couple of 16 ohm V30s for 8 ohm V30s?

I love my F-100 combo. It's the amp that convinced me once and for all that I like open-backed cabs for Boogies. I can't stand much low-end in an amp any more.

Congrats! I used to have the 1x12 F-30 and really liked it, but wound up selling it. I would love to pick up the head version some day.

BTW, 8-ohm out of the amp into a 16-ohm cab is a "safe mismatch" for a Mesa amp.

thats really nice Paul. Looks super clean too. I am a big fan of the F series. They can get a whole bunch of great tones.

Yeah, I was running it with the cab at 16 ohms for a while, but I figured it would sound better with the cab matched. It does.

I'm going to install a switch in the back of the cab so I can switch it between 4 and 16 ohm.

It's EXTREMELY loud too, considering it's 30 watts.

There's something I've always said about Mesas that holds true for this amp. It's very difficult to get a bad tone out of a Mesa. You'd really have to make a deliberate effort.

I'd agree with that, but it's also very difficult to make a Mesa sound like anything other than a Mesa - kind of a double edged sword.

True enough, which isn't so bad if you really like the Mesa sound. Not so good if you're looking for something more versatile.
