I believe Meshuggah are now using AxeFx units as well.

I listened to most of the clips up on You Tube. You fuggers are right. The Axe FX really does almost sound like the real thing.
I was wondering.. does it have a wikky wikky wick scratch preset so DJ's can use it?
Wow man.. dig that crazy software sound.....

I have the ultra on order and should be here pretty soon. Supposivly they have a killer Uberschall model in here. Given the samples that I have heard, I am very interested in digging into this thing.

I'd like a desktop (or coffee table-top) model.

I had not followed the hype about these units but my buddy Tymon crom Cynic plays live with the AxeFX and I was pretty impressed the last time I catch one of their gig.

So now I have a terrible case of GAS for an AxeFX.

What floorboard controlers do folks use to change the presets?
I'm using a ground control pro. the rocktron midimate is a good cheaper alternative too.

I was thinking they were more like 1/2 that.
When you consider what you're getting (top of the line modeling AND effects), the price is reasonable. Heck, a new Eventide Eclipse which only does effects and can't do as many at once as the Axe FX.

I'm more of a "set it and forget guy". I like having a lot of different sounds at my fingertips in the smallest space possible.

On a side note, you could easily hook up a MIDI controller box (not a MIDI pedal) with real knobs on it the assign the knobs to control parameters for anything like say an amp model. If you want more gain, less treble, more bass, etc. you just twist a knob. As a matter of fact, I'm going to have to keep that in mind.

Download the editor and manual from their website (Fractal Audio). There are links in their forums. Read the manual and play with the editor. You'll get a very good idea of what the box can do.

Hopefully somebody locally will get one in that I can try out.
There are only (2) dealers in the world right now. One in California and one in Europe. They do offer a generous return policy (15 days money back) so you can at least order one with that in mind.

I'm going to order mine tomorrow. I figure it will take them a day to process the order and a few days to get here. If it doesn't get here by until Friday the 12th, I'll be happy.

Sounds like everyone has pretty strong opinions about them and mostly for the positive. I'll have to look into these a little more then. Hopefully somebody locally will get one in that I can try out.

For those of you that own them it sounds like the general consensus is that you use powered monitors for practice and run direct when playing with band or live. Has anyone tried one of these through that new Bose column PA rig?
I had a pair of those Bose L1s. They are fine for the situations they are designed for. But they won't hang with a loud rock band. My drummer hits fucking hard - the Bose don't have what it takes to keep up with that.

I've experimented with a lot of configurations with the Axe-FX:
    • Boogie 2:90 w/Port City cab (either 4x12 w/V30 or 2x12 w/Golds)
    • VHT 2502 w/PC cab
    • VHT 2902 w/PC cab
    • Fargen Super Collider using 4-cable method w/PC cab
    • QSC power amp w/PC cab
    • Crown power amp w/PC cab
    • QSC HPR122i FRFR active PA cab
    • JBL PRX FRFR active PA cab
    • Bose L1 system
    • QSC power amp w/Yamaha PA cabs
    • FBT Verve 12ma FRFR active PA cab
    • FBT Verve 8ma FRFR active PA cab
I've settled on using the FBT 12ma (and the 8ma as a backup) and feeding a direct signal to FOH.

The traditional guitar cab route is excellent as well - but save your money and just get a PA power amp unless you can really crank your tube power amp. Remember that a tube power amp doesn't deliver the good stuff unless it is cranked and it is being fed a hot signal.

Those that are praising these units are very credible "tone" sources...even tho they're still fuckers!
