I'm going to order mine tomorrow. I figure it will take them a day to process the order and a few days to get here. If it doesn't get here by until Friday the 12th, I'll be happy.

HOLY SMOKES! I didn't know that they were that much! I guess if you were able to take advantage of the full capabilities of the system then it'd be worth it. I'd never be able to justify that much $$$ though. I don't use that many effects and I prefer simple knobs over menus anyway. I'm more of a plug and play type guy. I was thinking they were more like 1/2 that.

Download the editor and manual from their website (Fractal Audio). There are links in their forums. Read the manual and play with the editor. You'll get a very good idea of what the box can do.

Hopefully somebody locally will get one in that I can try out.
There are only (2) dealers in the world right now. One in California and one in Europe. They do offer a generous return policy (15 days money back) so you can at least order one with that in mind.

When you consider what you're getting (top of the line modeling AND effects), the price is reasonable. Heck, a new Eventide Eclipse which only does effects and can't do as many at once as the Axe FX.

I'm more of a "set it and forget guy". I like having a lot of different sounds at my fingertips in the smallest space possible.

On a side note, you could easily hook up a MIDI controller box (not a MIDI pedal) with real knobs on it the assign the knobs to control parameters for anything like say an amp model. If you want more gain, less treble, more bass, etc. you just twist a knob. As a matter of fact, I'm going to have to keep that in mind.

              I hate ya all...

I had not followed the hype about these units but my buddy Tymon crom Cynic plays live with the AxeFX and I was pretty impressed the last time I catch one of their gig.

So now I have a terrible case of GAS for an AxeFX.

What floorboard controlers do folks use to change the presets?

I'm using a ground control pro. the rocktron midimate is a good cheaper alternative too.

I'd like a desktop (or coffee table-top) model.

I have the ultra on order and should be here pretty soon. Supposivly they have a killer Uberschall model in here. Given the samples that I have heard, I am very interested in digging into this thing.

I listened to most of the clips up on You Tube. You fuggers are right. The Axe FX really does almost sound like the real thing.
I was wondering.. does it have a wikky wikky wick scratch preset so DJ's can use it?
Wow man.. dig that crazy software sound.....

I believe Meshuggah are now using AxeFx units as well.

For those wondering if its so good why aren't the pros using it? Remember that up until recently there was a SEVERAL month wait to get one of these units as Cliff was building them pretty much one by one. So it wasn't as easy as just ordering one. Besides, I got one as did Tim and Pete how much more pro than that do you want? Anyway, the pros using/not using them doesn't bother me as there aren't many pros using my other combinations either (Jackson into a Bogner).
The price of the unit seems high at first but remember this unit is replacing a ton of other gear that costs way more than an Axe-Fx and can't do half the sounds the Axe-Fx can. The Axe-Fx replaces MULTIPLE high end amps as well as high end effects processors. Heck, think of the money involved just in connectors and cables to hook up racks or pedal boards full of gear that can begin to scratch the surface of what the Axe-Fx can do. Besides its quieter than all those other setups. And finally, unlike a lot of other gear the Axe-Fx is made of high end components and made in the USA. You can always pick up a used one for a bit less if you want. An Axe-Fx Standard is $1499. How much do you pay for a G-Force or G-System new or an Eclipse new?

Yeah, $1.5K or $2K is a lot of money for most folks to spend on *anything*, but from a value standpoint......dare I say an AxeFx could possibly be seen as UNDERpriced?

Really, aren't most serious gear folks spending around that amount for a head/cabinet and a few pedals or rack effects?

I think the size is what gets most people...."how can I spend that kind of money on just one 2U unit?" Maybe Cliff should have made it a 20 space unit and filled it with lead, then it would have more perceived value. lol.
