Currently I have the following Frankenstein setup for my Ultra...
AXE-FX Ultra
QSC GX-5 (Might have a VHT2502 to replace it with)
Boogie Recto cabinet that I am using in stereo
I must say that this is a pretty badass unit. I disabled the Cab emulation due to the setup I have right now. The cleans are astounding. I just have a few issues that are probably just RTFM type things. I am having a hard time dialing in a good amp that has a really heavy low end to it. I am wondering if it is my setup or what. I was looking into getting the QSC HPR122i loudspeaker setup and it looks like they are pretty much loved by the community but, I am really not concerned with modeling perfection... per-se. Not sure what I need to do here. I love the tones that I was hearing with the VHT power amps. This is just a completely different setup then what I am use too and I am getting a little lost with too much information floating around.
But... Damn... This is fun. Only problem is that I am spending a lot of time tone chasing rather then playing (Which always happens with new gear.)
If I could just figure out how to get a good Nevermore and Iced Earth punch out of it, I would be a happy guy.

First what firmware are you on?
Have you tried messing with the "Deep" function in page 2 of the amp block? that might help get you a little more bottom,,,or some of the advanced setting on page 3.
Got a particular preset you are working on?
AMEN brother
this guy has some good Iced Earth tones,, I sent him a message, and asked if he would mind sharing the preset, but he never got back to me.

Damn that blue print on black is hard to read! :-)) Hey, in your opinion..
(this to the owners of an AxeFx) Should i keep my VHT 2/90/2 as the
stereo amp? Or should i just sell it, and keep my Peavey solid state 50/50 stereo amp? Mind you , i would just be bedroom playing at mid level
volumes. Sellin my mint newly tubed VHT would get me 1/2 way there!
But maybe it would sound amazing with the Axe?

If they had a cheaper ($800?) version of this with a half of the patches but the same sound quality I would totally buy it. I can't afford one of these expensive ones. Maybe if I make enough money this summer."Dear Dr. Bill,

I just updated to 7.16, so until they come out with a 1.17 for the ultra (they just announced one for the standard) I am going to stick with it for a while. I didmess around with the deep and it did make a little difference. I have been just screwing around with the "Metal" amp which is one of their own creations. The thing is that I just need to spend more time in the manual and understanding the more advanced functions of the amps. I did screw around with the Hi/Low cuts, thump and it made a hell of a difference.
Where I dont understand what is going on is the tonestack/tons location. But, I will say this.... This thing is starting to breath in a serious way. It just takes baby steps and they are right. Start off simple with just an amp and then add the drive to it. Fuck with it until you get something magical and then start throwing the kitchen sink at it. Major fun with this thing.
I remember the announcements on HC when they started talking about it. Everyone had their doubts. Then once I saw the comments coming from you guys about how great it was I had to grab one. Some people call it Kool-aid. Ill say one thing... I'll drink that koolaid. Fuck it, Ill take an enema of this koolaid. I am in the process of selling my Splawn Nitro and a few other goodies to pay off the credit card bill for this one. I can see how a gigging musician would really love this thing. It beats the fuck out of Boss/Pod/Amplitude... whatever.

You make the choice. I am pretty happy with this QSC G5 amp but, I really need to A/B to be sure. There is a guy out on you tube who is running a VHT and 2x12 randall cabinets and his tone is totally amazing.
Clams plenty here ..lol. I couldn't hear the backing track very well because I didn't want it to bleed through, so my timing was major messed up..sorry.Only...
Just look up his other videos. He does some comparisons with other amps (CAE, Shur, ....)

I want one but I'm carrying too much balance on my CC at the moment to get one. Once I pay it down I will probably spring for one of these. I like the dude's engineering philosophy on them. He puts the expensive parts where they will do the most good.GTWGITS! - RacerX

Regardless, save your money and get one because once you do, you want to have to buy another amp or processor ever again....unless they release the Axe-FX Ultra Plus.
