  • I need a new amp

I have came to the conclusion that I need a new amp. I'm in a neo classical inspired technical thrash band and my budget is $1500 used for just the head. What i need is a usable clean tone, a killer thrash rythem tone and something that can get a good shred tone.

Here are some of the albums that I like the rythem tone of
    Anthrax- spreading the disease
    Sanctuary- refuge denied
    Toxik-world circus
    Intruder-a higher form of killing

    some lead tones i like
anything from jason becker, yngwie malmsteen, fabrazio leo, Rusty cooley, or jeff loomis.

I realize I may not be able to get a good shred tone out of the same amp so if not i could always get a protones jason becker pedal.

    Help would be much apreciated.

Marshall DSL100MLB all tube great amp, you get the head and cab for 1299.00. This has the great clean and awesome shredding tone. If you like the Yngwie sound this amp will do it. I know the shop where I get my gear has one in stock and it sounds better than my Marshall JCM900.

You do realize that Malmsteen's tone is WAY different than all the others you mentioned.
I would look at Soldano and Bogner.

Under $1500 used for a Bogner or Soldano is going to be pretty tough to find. With such a wide range of tones, I'd say a Randall RM100. Loaded with 3 preamp modules that will get all those tones these are well under $1500, heck for about $1600ish you can get it new.

You could find a Soldano Avenger for under $1,500 no problem. Used, they normally go for around $1,100-1,300. The Randall is a good idea too. I'd like to try one out myself. If you're going to go Marshall I'd stay clear of the DSLs. Too loose sounding in my opinion. From everything I've heard, the JVMs are a better choice. You might be able to find a Rivera K-tre for $1,500.

I don't know any of the bands mentioned except for Anthrax.

I love my DSL100, but I play mostly Classic Metal (Judas Priest, Maiden, Ozzy, etc).

Hey, you said you mostly play through your pod with head phones Oh and thanks for your help with the randall!

Played some amps today including the jvm, vht pitbull clx, and my friends randall rm100 with an xtc mod. I really didnt like the jvm it was very buzzy and just overall didnt like the voicing I really got along with the clx that was a really cool amp playing it was pretty cool, and my friends randall was alrite i only got to play 1 mod though it was better then the jvm but below the clx

Here's some help/entertainment while your shopping and considering stuff.
Hopefully this will give you SOME idea of the differences between these fantastic amps. In general, I think the Einstein is a little more "refined" sounding...

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.
