Here's another project I've been working on. This is the headbox for the SLO clone I'm building. There is something kinda interesting about this headshell though. This is built entirely out of scrap 2X4s. That's right. I went through the pile of scrap studs left over from my basement framing, and after some cutting planing and glueing, this is what resulted. Now I just have to finish ordering my parts, and complete the amp itself.

Hey I got lot's of scrap 2x4s on the farm but highly doubt I could make em look like that. Awesome can't wait to see how it turns out."We were sitting on the bus one day and there were 5 of us hanging out. There was only one beer left in the cooler and we actually all took a little cup and split it. It was a pathetic day in a rock and roll when five grown men have to be sitting there sharing a beer. "

That looks solid, nice job! I had thought about doing something like that to turn a combo in to a head/cab, but I just don't have the tools for it. (Planer, especially.) I can make something out of ply, but solid wood, finger-jointed construction seems more appealing. Even though it would be covered, I'd still know...

Here's a quick update on my headshell. I made a huge mistake with the tolex. As I was applying it, I drew reference lines on the inside of the tolex with a sharpie, as I have done before to aid in lining up the tolex. The problem is, I've never used a lighter coloured tolex before, and had no idea what would happen next. I'm not sure whether it was just the sharpie ink itself, or if it reacted with the contact cement, but AFTER the tolex was almost completely done, I noticed some dark lines emerging on the outside of the tolex. It progressively got darker and darker until there were very noticeable black lines around the top edge of the headshell. I'm totally bummed about this fuckup. I can either use vinyl paint to respray the whole thing (unfortunately limited to some very boring colours) or I can order some more tolex and take the time to strip the old stuff and do it over again.
So, I guess I'm going to redo it. The wife says it's not that noticeable, but it is to me, and it will bug me forever, so I gotta do it right. I went ahead and installed the handles, feet, and grill, just to get an idea of how it will look when done. I'm putting black metal corners on it too, but they aren't here yet. Now I gotta order the new tolex.
Here's the pic.
My boards are all done. I just have to order the rest of my parts (trannies, pots, tube sockets, etc.), and wire it all up.

It's an alcohol based ind and may do the trick without damaging the fabric.

What, no Soldano Purple? Looks great! Perfect for going "Green" though, with the use of the old 2 X 4's! That Sharpie ink most likely will not come out with a solvent. It's bled through the backing fabric and then the vinyl. Try the solvent though.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.

I have just ordered 2 yards of camo tolex. I'm sure many people are gonna hate it, but I wanted something different, and camo tolex is definitely different.
