I built my SLOClone with red snakeskin tolex:
There was also a shop in germany that sells blue snakeskin which looks also cool but it was bloody expensive. I am really looking forward to your camo tolexed cab. The only camo tolex i have found here in germany doesn't look that great so i am interested in seeing yours.
Oh and you probably already know but the SLOClone is one great amplifier.

How do all of your soldano clones compare to the slo soundwise is it pretty spot on on the sound?"Too bad Kurt didn't teach John how to aim a gun."

The Weber version is not a clone exactly, but more of an interpretation from what I understand. The SloClone (which is what I'm building) is supposed to be very, very close, but this of course also depends on the components used, especially the transformers."Too bad Kurt didn't teach John how to aim a gun."

Are you going to put DeYoung transformers in the amp? That's what Mike reportably uses in the SLO. I looked at my SLO-100 and that's what's in there.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.

Well i only played a real SLO100 in a store so my experience is limited. However my Clone definitely has the same signature sound. I am sure that if both amps are side-by-side you will hear some small differences but that's ok with me. My Clone sounds great and that's what matters to me and it defnitely shows it's heritage.
BTW like Zeegler i also did the one from from SLOClone Board.
Zeeg you are pretty brave to jump into the cold water like that I first build some tube recording stuff, then a 5 Watt and then a 30 Watt amp before committing to 100W amps (actually i built the SLOClone and the JCM800-type amp (the yellow one in the pic) at the same time).
Bengal, as far as i know DeYoung transformers for the SLO100 are exclusively sold to Soldano themselves so you don't have a change to get one for a clone. However Onetics has a set of transformers which are supposed to be extremely near the sound of the DeYoungs. I would have used them to but sadly they are near impossible to get here in europe. Onetics only deals directly and they seem to not be interested in selling overseas (at least that was when i looked into them). I ended up buying a set specially made for the SLOClone from a italien transformer company and i am pretty happy. The amps sounds great. Transformers are far to expensive to buy several sets and change them to see which ones are best sounding so there might be better ones out there but that's ok.

I think it's only a matter of time before someone does some type of online amp building seminar. Bruce Egnater does his seminar, but you have to be there in person. I don't see any reason why the same sort of thing couldn't be done online. I'll bet it would be very popular.
