  • Marshall inspired amps

Alright I am considering buying a splawn quickrod but have yet to find one to try out. Ive tried the nitro and that was an amazing amp in all but i dont think its for me. What are some other marshall inspired amps. Any body think modding may be a good idea? The only problem though a is I obviosly wouldnt get to play it first but I could tell the modders what I like. Im bassically just looking for a hotrooded marshall sound to tgive me good thrash and shred tones. Sorry for keep on bugging you guys with amp questions.

Hey, if you talk to Scott Splawn, he will be the first to tell you that the nitro is not for everyone and certainly not really for anyone looking for a classic marshall hot-rodded tone (its specifically designed to be more modern sounding).

He talked me out of a nitro in about 20 seconds. I ended up with a Quick Rod and I have not looked back. Simply an awsome sounding amp which does exactly what I hoped/expcted right from the get-go. I plugged it into a mesa recto cab and it moves air something fearce and even sounds very good at kinda low volumes (may need a hotplate, but so far it has been fine in practice and live situations.

I have been a mesa rack system guy for a long time (triaxis-2:90 etc. - I decided I wanted a change). I admit that I was never really too happy with the JCM sounds staight out of the box.

Quick Rod can do Slayer/Master of Puppets type sounds easily (as well as the VH, AC/DC etc. sounds you would expect) and with the addition of a MXR 10 band eq pedal in the effects loop and get that additional umpf if you really want it.

I have had this amp since last September. I use it at practice every week and have gigged it several times. It stays.

I get the hot-rodded Marshall tone from my Laney AOR, for $400. Has way more gain than I'll ever need, too.

+1, and mine was even cheaper than $400!

By the same token, I'm dreaming of someday owning a Splawn & an Uberschall someday too...

One of the Peavey's I haven't tried, but I know the Windsor is modeled after a PLexi, and some say sound like a JCM 800.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

Head: Soldano SLO-100, or older Marshall with Voodoo amp mods

Rack alternatives: ADA MP-1 or Marshall JMP-1 with a good tube power amp.

Ya I think ill like the quickrod I just need to try it. Wild west guitars has one on order. Im starting to not like the clips but thats cuz most people are playing 80 cock rock. I like slayers show no mercy tone but not anything after and ive never liked tallicas tone. The thrash tones I like are anthrax spreading the disease, toxiks world circus, or coroners rip, but in the end its going to come down to my own tone that I use for my band.
The QR seems to shine in its leads and I do like its clean

Ive played the windsor a while ago it was a joke. I wouldnt consider peavey....maybe a 3120 but still dont think that would work for me

Ya I think Im going to buy used Id like to spend 1500 but if it "the amp" I wouldnt mind spending aroun 2000. Not sure if I can get a slo for that and if I could not sure if it would have enough gain matbe so. I will possibly go with a voodoo modded marshall possibly an fja modded marshall. Wish cameron still modded marshalls. I dont think i'd like a preamp I prefer heads.

actually know the only soldano id get would be the hot rod plus its the only one with an effects loop and clean channel
