    check out this video...

**side note** Bugera amps ARE reliable. I've tortured mine since I started gigging with it in Feb and it has been perfect! After the tubes burned in a bit the sound got even better. If you can locate one...try it out. You'll be surprised.
I tried that as a joke and it actually suprised me but still not what id want. It had this annoying high end I couldnt dial out

it has 3 gears or levels of overdrive. i'm sure you can find one that works for you.

Actually a lot of people run the 900s down and I think they are being a bit unfair.. The mk3 *90 - 92* and the 90 - 99 Dual Reverb heads, both had a clipping diode to make their gain, while not a bad design at all, they can sound great with a mxr 108 in the fx loop and a o/d pedal in front between the guitar where as the sl-x is all tube with no clipping diode. I had a mk3 master volume for 2 months until I played my mk4 2100 *SL-X* and I can say the 900s are my favorite amp because one they sound great and they are very under rated but they are gaining popularity.. Now besides my playing *mainly messing around with a rhythm part of a song I am writing along with a little slayer esque riffing at the end while using my les paul studio* Test1.mp3

Take a listen and tell me if that sounds bad *sl-x with jj e34l power tubes and jj ecc83s preamp tubes*...

            Cheers,

Have you checked out the 5150 III?

I don't know what the reviews are like for this thing, but I spent 45 minutes playing a Dave Murray strat through it at Guitar Center on 14th St (NYC) and it nearly ate me alive. I really dug the high gain sound - and chugging on the E and A was a life-changing tonal event.

Yeah, the 333XL has the same issue on the lead channel until you dial the analog noise gate up and it went away. I'd imagine the 1990 with an analog gate would do the same. NOT a digital gate as you don't wanna lose sustain, but just want to cut out those frequencies. Even with buying the head and a gate you're still getting best bang for the buck.

People have been raving about that Peavey 3120 too, but I know nothing of it's tone......
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

Get a MTS Randal with the SL+ ,Brahma and or scary modules
Great hot rodded marshall tones and very cheap on the second hand market.

Not particularly... Outside of having more gain on tap than the JCM 900, the SL-X, IMHO, is less versatile than the JCM 900.
