Not in a long time, not playng stadiums or a kanck for self punishment . The last time I did it it was with a 2203 and 1960A 4x12. In all honestly from 7-10 there wasn't much noticable difference...a 2203 on 5 is WAY to loud as it is
I like my hearing (what's left of it) way too much to crank anything I own up that loud. My Carvin would kill me if I cranked it all the way up. I've never had it past 4.
I did take an old Crate G-120C combo and cranked it full bore after I shut it in a closet to dampen the volume.
Wanted to see how good the stock speakers would hold up.
They lasted about 20 minutes. One speaker cone tore and the other had a fried voice coil. But it was fun.
When I was playing in a band, my Carvin X60 combo (combo speaker unplugged) was dimed six hours a day six days a week. No problem with the amp or the Carvin High Energy 4x12. Now that I have the Legacy II head I think the speakers could take it, my ears and surroundings problably couldn't.
I've had my 50W JCM800 head ( 2205 ) on 8, through a 1990A 4x12, and my 100W JCM800 ( 4211 ) on 5, through a 1960A and a pair of Celestion Classic Lead in the 2x12 combo
both at the same time, on the same stage
no issues with either the amps or the speakers for a 2 hour set
yes, it was a bit loud, it was overpowering the 5kW PA rig
there was no point in taking the 50W past 8, as it just got dirtier, not louder
usually, the 50W on about 5 or the 100W on 2 is plenty for a pub/club gig
I have cranked my 100 W Ampeg to 8 and it sounded mighty fine.
I had the 100 watt Carvin to 9 and shook the stuff off the wall in the living room.
It sounded damn fine to at high volume.
Took the 100 watt Jackson jg-3 1/2 stack to an outdoor gig and had it on 8 thru a Marshall power brake and it was sweet.Loud as hell tons of mids, shook the stage pretty good too.
