  • Blackstar series 1

I spent a very happy hour today trying out the 100W head
    oh my goodness it's good
tone, tone, and more tone, clean, crunch and smoooooth
I hate to say this, but my JCM800s are in danger, I need to raise the money for one somehow

    anyone else tried these?

So does it sound like a hot rodded 800

I have one and love it!

I had to gig it without trying it loud first and it was awesome!

I will be trying it at rehearsal on Sunday so will have a chance to mess with it a bit.

I have been using a Splawn Quickrod for the last 4 years and had a Dual rec for a few weeks but did'nt like it so i tried the series one 100 head and bought it there and then.

I can't say, I've never spent any time with anything other than standard JCM800s, but to me, it's like a JCM800 to start with, but you can dial in varying amounts of 'mesa-ness'. I guess the JCM800 sound with extra gain is what you mean, and yes, it does that VERY well
I started with everything in the middle, and it's a good sound, then adjust the controls both ways, and didn't find a bad sound in an hour
I don't work for Blackstar, honest!

Well the Quickrod was like a hot rodded 800 but with a nice thickness to it and the Blackstar sounds the same so far, like i say i've only played it loud once but i was very pleased with it at the gig,the other guitarist in the band is looking at changing his Engl screamer combo for the series one 45 combo so it looks like he liked it also!
