  • Anyone heard a cab built from oak?

I have a Peavey Renown 210 watt that I have been using for a bit as a bass amp. It actually sounds OK for what I do (I'm not a bassist, just like to screw around). I want to try the scorpion speakers in a 2x12 sealed box/cabinet to see if it'll tighten up the sound any. As it happens I just stuck a solid oak (about 5/8" thick) dresser by the garbage. There's plenty of wood for a 2x12 size cab and it's free... Anyone tried one out of oak? Worth a shot? I'm throwing it away anyway..

Seems it would weigh a ton.
Are you sure it isn't oak veneer?

Definitely solid oak and does weigh quite a bit. Surprised the hell out of me when I saw it. I think I'm gonna just get some plywood for the cab and make something else out of the oak. I need stands for my studio monitors. And it's still free..

You could make one of these:

        My "Barn Door Bich"
I play it more than anything else...20 years old and doing fine.

I have an oak cab; I built it a few years ago for recording & when I'm too lazy to lug a 4x12 around.

It has a nice tight sound. I think I have a vintage 30 in it.

I left the other cabs in the pic for a size ref.
