Mine has EL34s in it but I also recently picked up an RM4 preamp as well as RT2/50 power amp. The power amp has 6550's in one side which I will try out. The RM4 is Randall's rack mount version of the pre-amp and holds 4 MTS modules
If you're not looking for anything with big wattage, try looking into a Fender Blues Junior or other lower-power amp. I heard blues player Coco Montoya playing at a local club recently and he kicked total ass!
To my surprise, he wasn't pushing some huge Marshall half-stack or other big-time rig. All he had was a 25-watt Fender Princeton amp (if I remember correctly) which he had cranked up. He got his full-open sound, but the volume wasn't so bad as to deafen everyone in the club.
Its so silent I didn't even think it was on. Also... even at extremely low volume... dare to say... bedroom levels, it sounds amazing, thick with tons of tone.
I really was blown away within 5 minutes. My bandmates were really digging it. Many people at the gig said it was the best guitar tone I have ever had and believe me... I have had "several".
I want to get all the Lynchbox modules and throw EL34's in it and take it for a spin... DOKKEN style.
I also can't wait to take the SL+ for a test drive. This amp sounds even better than all the clips online.
Hmm maybe the one I tried was fucked. I played it at low levels and it was completly buzzy and thin sounding. I don't remeber wich mod I think it might have been brown.

Youll be a happy man if you do this.

I am in a live and loud progressive metal band. My drummer POUNDS. Even not mic'd he is extremely loud. A fender blues jr. wouldn't cut it for me bro. I barely get by with a Marshall 4 x 12 and 100 watts. Its all about tone at a moderate to loud stage level and presence. A little combo isn't going to cut it in my band. If I was playing blues or jazz that would be a different story.
well it could John if you mic'd the combo and cranked it through the PA
Heads and 4x12's rule in all situations imho
Regardless of the size of the PA or monitoring system its mandatory for me to be able to hear my guitar sound through my speaker cabinet a little bit. A 1 x 12 combo isn't going to let that happen.
That is pretty awsome how you can just keep on getting new pre amps if you get sick of an amp its not another grand. All the clips online make it soud buzzy and not full on tube though. When I tried it it was unbearable to play but it was just a little over mouse fart levels.

There might have been something wrong with the one you tried because its an awesome sounding amp. Its very very bad ass.
