You really can't go wrong with an RM100. I had an RM50 head and it was very cool. I wish I would've kept it. Easy bias adjustment, the ability to take many different powertubes, two effects loops... the list goes on and on. Many features.

I had the Blackface, XTC, and a SL+ modules. The Blackface clean was excellent and the XTC was nice for soloing... though a bit dark.

I looked at the Splawn Nitro and its killer... just too expensive.
I also heard clips of the Bogner Alchemist that are fantastic. I just don't think 40 watts is enough for me believe it or not.
The Randall RM clips are amazing. The reviews by players are probably the best reviews I have ever heard. It seems everybody loves the Randall RM. Especially players who are looking for specific tube tones. Like I said.. I could absolutely live with a 101B tone and a blackface tone. I just need to boost the 101B tone for solo's and I can do that with a volume pedal. For the last few years I have been trying to use as little effects or processing as possible live.
Another amp that consistantly impresses me live is the Engl Powerball. Nothing beats the Bogner 101B to my ears though for all around tone. If I was in a really heavy band I would probably be looking at an Engl Savage or of course.. a dual or triple rectifier. Sambencuda had a single rectifier that sounded fantastic and was extremely versatile. I could absolutely live with that tone too. Its just time for an amp change. Its my birthday today, I have a gig on Friday and it would be fun to break out a new amp.

For years I wanted a Mark IV. Not really feeling the love for the Mark IV anymore. With the correct outboard processing and tweaking they sound great but the tone is a little too creamy and a little too much work to find for me. I also don't like the way they channel switch.

I would suggest if you're looking at ENGL, I would get the Savage. Way better then the Powerball. I had a PB and they are great at low volumes, but lack everywhere else.

Mark V it is, then. Even on Mark IV mode, it sounds nothing like a Mark IV.

I am going with the Randall RM100 with 3 modules.... Blackface, Recto and XTC.
I am going to use the 3 button Randall footswitch and put a rack mount delay and a volume pedal in the loop and a chorus and wah out in front.
For a cabinet I am using my trusty vintage Marshall 1960B loaded with T75's.
The cool thing is I am taking delivery of the amp at my job on Friday morning and the gig is Friday night. The only time I will have to try it out and dial it in will be during set up and sound check at the gig. Now thats cool. Also.. I have never heard the RM100 live or even in a music store. I am strictly going by the reviews here and the reviews and clips I have heard on line. They are all stellar. This has to be a great amp. Happy B-Day to me!!!!!
If any of you are wondering how I got the cash??? I sold that Steinberger last night.
It was a fantastic guitar but it wasn't comfortable for me to play standing up and the 5 position switch was in such a tight place I really couldn't get to it. The guy I sold it to is local and he was looking for one for a really long time. He was a really decent guy and I gave him a good deal on it. I probably could have gotten more if I sold it online but this guy had cash in hand. My bandmates are gonna crap when they see another amp! The RM100 is one of the few amps I have never heard live or owned. I am pretty stoked about it actually.

Don't forget that Pete (oklastrat) is in the business of modding the modules. He's got a site... though I'm not sure of the address.

So guys...... since the RM100 is arriving the day of the gig I need some insight..
The modules are Blackface, Recto and XTC. I am going to use the Randall 3 button switch and a volume pedal in the loop for solo boost. Most of you know what style music I play. Its sort of like a dialed down Dream Theatre. Which module would you recommend I use for rhythm and which one for a solo tone? I am thinking the XTC for rhythm and fills and the Recto for solo's. I am also going to put a Yamaha SPX90II delay in the loop and give it a very slight delay.
For all you RM live players... will I be able to dial in a nice clean/heavy rhythm/lead tone with little to no problem? Keep in mind.. I have had a "few" amps ...lol... and I know my way around an amp.
Also.... is the Recto module true to a real Rectifier? I really only need the blackface clean and the XTC but there are a few songs we do that require a really heavy tight tone and I figured the Recto module would work for that.
I am most stoked about the XTC module. I really dig the clips I have heard on Youtube.

Alright JCF'rs.... what would you do in this instance???

I worked out the deal with Pete to get the Randall RM100 with the 3 modules. I came home tonight for my little birthday party with my family and a buddy of mine stops over the house to tell me that his friend bought a Mesa rig last year and only used it a few times at home and wants to sell it quick. He needs money to repair his car.
What he has is a brand new Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier and matching Mesa 4 x 12 Rectifier cabinet. He is asking $1100.00 for the entire rig but he would sell it to me for 1K. What would you do? I need to tell him tonight because he is going to trade it in tomorrow at GC for an acoustic guitar. They won't give him spit for it but he is going to do it anyway.
