I like Single Recs but if it was up to me, I'd go with RM100. More versatile and you can get modules to cover any amp tone you're after... just like the modelers you seem to be pretty fond of.

For a tight metal tone on the RM-100 you should probably look at the Dan Donegan 1086 module or the George Lynch Grail module. I know one of the old timers around here did mods on these modules to further refine their sound as well. (Pete/Twister?)GTWGITS! - RacerX

I worked out the deal with Pete to get the Randall RM100 with the 3 modules. I came home tonight for my little birthday party with my family and a buddy of mine stops over the house to tell me that his friend bought a Mesa rig last year and only used it a few times at home and wants to sell it quick. He needs money to repair his car.
What he has is a brand new Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier and matching Mesa 4 x 12 Rectifier cabinet. He is asking $1100.00 for the entire rig but he would sell it to me for 1K. What would you do? I need to tell him tonight because he is going to trade it in tomorrow at GC for an acoustic guitar. They won't give him spit for it but he is going to do it anyway.
I dunno man... You said earlier IIRC you didn't think 40 watts would cut it. 50 watts isn't noticeably louder than 40 watts, not a lot more headroom....
I can't say what you'd prefer but I'd probably rather have the Randall, but that is a pretty smokin' deal, too.

Thanks everybody. I am going to go with the RM. I've already had a few rectifiers... an early Dual and a Dual Recto Tremoverb. 1K is a great deal for a new half stack but the Randall RM100 clips on Youtube have me GASSING REAL BAD. My favorite module based on the online clips is the XTC although the 1086 sounds really good too.

Does Lynch actually use the amp live? The modules absolutely nail his Dokken tones.
I saw Disturbed live a few months ago and it looked like Don Donegan was using Randall RM100 heads. Lots of them. His guitar tone was crushing.
Looks like I am going to be purchasing alot of modules in the very near future. Like I said earlier... the clips on Youtube are outstanding. The comparisons between the actual amp and the Randall module for that amp are amazing. I am really digging the SL+ module. I got to get that one. I like how its a modded JCM800 up to 12:00 and beyond that it turns into an SLO. If Randall had some good players doing the Youtube factory demo's that would be even cooler but I can hear the tone without being scared away by the lousy players that demo these amps live. I am going to contact Pete (Twisteramps) too regarding some modded modules. This is going to be really fun. I can't wait until Friday.

hap y B-day John!
I thought you were looking for a Petrucci tone?
His sound is Mesa.
Mark IIC+, Mark IV and RoadKing
I just recently went to a IVa and I've got his sound dialed in to a tee
if you went Recto I'd go for a Roadster, much more versatile than a single (which I had and liked ) but going over to the Mark series opened my eyes and ears to the sound I was chasing.
will the RM do a Petrucci type of tone?
splawn won't 5150 won't.
$1,000.00 for a 1/2 stack, shit buy it and sell the head for $900.00 and the cab for $500.00 and make a couple of bucks. If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

One of these days I need to see if it still works!I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
