I believe it was just one version, with a switch on the back to go between EL34s and 6L6s. I never did try it with the EL34s. I got mine and it already had the KT66s (they're a substitute for the 6L6). It sounded pretty good with any guitar but really amazing whenever I used my Carvin SC90 with DiMarzio Super Distortion and Super 2.
I didn't know it had a bias switch... It seems like would know that.
I should look at it. Seriously it's been sitting there collecting dust since sometime in the 90's...
There were definitely 2 different versions, but one was a head and one was a combo. They weren't just the same amp, though, the head was 50-watts and EL34's, mine is a combo, 60-watt w/6L6. That's about all I can remember for sure, I bought it new so it was a long time ago.

Coolest thing about the Randall gear is that you can choose each channel and swap/trade modules you don't like to find ones you do. I think we've all had amps with one killer channel and one less than good one... this way you get to mix and match. Can also run different powertubes in it, amp is incredibly easy to bias.
Isn't there another amp that will take the Randall modules? I remember hearing about that... anyone know?

I'm pretty sure my BV60 head was 60 watts. I sold it to somebody here over a year ago. The BV120 was 120 watts and the BV 60 was 60 watts. I know there was a combo version, too. Maybe the combo doesn't have a bias switch? Was there another version of it that was 50 watts?

So you make custom mods. Would you do any amp.

Hey Pete, I have been reading all about you over at Grailtone. We will be doing a "fair" amount of business I think!! Congratz on being the Randall MTS module mod master.
I will be getting the RM100 tomorrow morning and the first time I plug it in will be at the gig tomorrow night. It should be very interesting. The only thing I am concerned about is how the loop is going to play with my Yamaha SPX90II effects processor. I only use it for delay. If it doesn't want to cooperate I will just do the gig dry with my Lil Alligator volume pedal in the loop for solo boost. The only other pedals I have is a Boss CH1 chorus and a wah pedal. I always put them out in front.

Wow, you're going to plug into a rig soundcheck which you've never heard live before, and the ONLY thing that concerns you is the loop?!? Everbody listen up: This is the definition of what big cajones means! I realize you're going by a lot of great reviews, which goes a long way, I know. But I cannot think of anyone (else) going into a gig with a fresh setup like this. I can't wait to hear how the gig goes.
BTW, John, I do you place the chrous out front, just cos it's easiest to have it next to your wah, or do u prefer it soundwise, or do u know it doesn't work well with loops?
I always heard it's best to place time-based effects in the loop. That's what sounded best for my Rockman 1/2 rack chorus, but I think a stomp out front is an easier setup.
"Your work is ingenius…it’s quality work….and there are simply too many notes…that’s all, just cut a few, and it’ll be perfect."

I think the chorus sounds better out in front. It has more presence. Its definately more studio sounding in the loop but I actually prefer the in your face presence when throwing it out in front.
Regarding using the RM100 for the first time at a gig..... it seems to me that its a pretty straight forward amp. At least I hope it is. I am thinking just baseline settings and I should be fine. Hopefully I will have around 15 minutes to dial it in prior to sound check. That should do it.
I have never really had much of a problem dialing an amp in on the fly in realtime providing there aren't too many switches and push/pull pots.
The RM seems straight up. I downloaded the owners manual and studied it the last few days. I will also have my Trademark 300 there just incase.
Oh yea.. I really am going strictly by the clips I heard on Youtube. Also... Hippietim, Twisteramps and a host of other great JCF players and pro's all give the RM100 the big thumbs up live. I think even George Lynch likes it. Regarding Kirk.... he did a video regarding his signature RM and modules and he couldn't even remember what it was called. Thats a funny video.
I may turn mine into a Lynch box one day too. I really dig Georges tone.

I'm 99% positive (oh, but that other 1% can be a killer!) that there was a head which was 50 watts, and I have seen the 120W head, too. And I think they later made a different combo still called the Blue Voodoo 60 that was very slightly different.
It's hard to tell... I have tried to research the amp (I think I have the manual somewhere) to get the "scoop" on it and I haven't found a lot of info about the specific one that I have, but I do specifically remember my buddy who owned the store was a dealer and had them in "new" and him telling me that he had two different versions, and I remember one was 50 watts and a head and the on I got, a 60W combo.
The issue with placing time based effects in the loop is similar of where you would place a distorion pedal in a chain of stompboxes.
With a delay or chorus in the chain.
Delay in front of the overdrive sounds really strange, and the same holds true if it is staged in front of the internal overdrive designed into the preamp section.
Although I have not tried it on one of my amps-I don't use chorus/delay/etc. any longer.
MM2, I'd appreciate it if you would try it on yours and tell what you come up with.
I want to consider putting an effects loop on that amp but I really don't want to push the price up if it won't be needed.
Also-Crate has a habit of playing funny numbers with their model names. I had a cheap GXT100 hybrid that was actually 80 watts.
I thought the BV series were 50/100 watts.
10 watts difference wouldn't be noticeable regardless on the BV60.
