They had a 212, I picked up a dk2, turned it on, went to the 6505 channel, played one sweep, turned it off, and bought a 112 on the spot. It is THAT damn good, and THAT much better than the line 6. And at only 450...
i have played them and i like the tone also. but for that peavey sound i jam on my real one! ps. its so loud it knocks things over and off the walls. thats why i keep it in the closet.

Isn't the Spider Valve just a Spider preamp with a tube power amp? The Vypyr tube actually uses the response of a 12AX7 in the models (since it's an analog modeler like the Tech 21 stuff).

Of course, a real tube amp will blow both of them away at live volumes, but for the bedroom and even rehearsal there's not much better.
      Nope, all tube.

The spider valve is sort of hybird... It is an analog pre amp with a 12ax7 in there to "assist" and an all tube 6L6 power amp. And maybe a splawn is better, but I use my amp for different weird stuff. I am first and foremost a shredder, but I play in a Nickleback esque band, so I need to be able to have many greats sounds, not just a kicking metal channel. Also for that kinda music, you use a suprising amount of weird effects, like rotary speaker, flange, chorus, but to have all that in an amp that sounds tube like is a MUST. I would not want to spend all the money on effects with other amps. I am a modeling man for life. And unless peavey puts out a Vypyr 2 (which they probably will) or until another company one-ups them, I will be a vypyr man for life.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

There is a mod you can do to the spider that will make it completely tube responsive. I think it's about $150 iirc

I like the Vox VT series over the Line 6/Peavey modeling amps.

With AMS selling these at $499, doesn't musician's friend price guarantee kick in? 10% off the lowest advertised price?

                  So $450?

10% of the difference and yes it should unless they haven't updated their prices yet

They haven't- Been watching them since AMS dropped theirs. Guitar Center's site too.

Oddly does appear they've cut the head now, but not the combos
