  • Any VOX fans?

I was doing tons of research on modeling amps and effect boards, but out of the line 6, Peavey, fender, zoom, digitech, boss, I'd say the tube Vox has me shitting bricks. I like it a lot and plan on getting the VOX tonelab ST.
My luthier got the VT30 in the lobby and that thing blew me away. The EVH brown sound and Iron Maiden sound was like so thick I could touch it.

Peavey doesn't make bad sounding amps, the Vypyrs. But the line 6 drove me nuts on its sound quality being too plasticy. Its prett inexpensive though and I've yet to try the Valve so I can't diss it. Kudos to Line6 for their Podfarm software interface.

With everyone doing the modeling craze, I've settled with a tube VOX modeler.

I don't own the Tonelab yet, but theres a list of the presets and the brown sound and Iron Maiden is definitely on there! Its also on the VT30 amp too.

There are may threads on this subject. If you look back at one of mine, I went with a VT15, but I also have a POD 2.3, a PODxt, and a G-DEC for the apartment. Modellers are cheap and fun.

The only issue with the VT15 is that it's still too loud and somewhat boomy for the apartment. I need to stuff the cab with holofill to mellow it out some.

I use headphones for the PODs so they aren't an issue.

When at home, I use the DSL100. It's pure love then...

I've got the AD50VT 2x12 which is the older version of the VT 50 and I love it! In fact, I ended up selling my Marshall half stack because I never used it after I got the VOX. It has everything I need and then some. I'll eventually upgrade, probably to the VT100, but for now I'm happy as a clam.

I've had the Vox AD120VTX 2x12 combo and the ToneLab LE. Both were better, to my ears, than my Pod XT Live, though I do like Line 6's layout and features, e.g., great computer side software. The Digitech GNX4 is also great if you get the Supermodels CD for it, though that starts to run into quite a bit of money.

              Appreciation for Modelers
Good you guys understand good tone Modelers are probably harder than it seems, and I give kudos to anyone simply trying to make it work. Every brand of modeler has something that they do better than another company, but I decided that VOX had I wanted.

              Peavey Vypyr

I almost went with Peavey VYPYR, but on their forum the reliability of those units were known to be bad. The PR person finally cracked and admitted they sent out some buggy units. The construction quality is one of the first i've seen to seem too lightweight and flimsy. I really did want one, maybe I'll look into it again when VYPYR II is in store. Which brings me to...

Problem: Digital Amps become slave to technology and lose value
The other problem with digital modelers is that they get outdated and seem to lose value vs. typical analog amps. Old amps are still expensive..This is due to the nature of being dependent on technology. For the past several decades, instruments and amps never got outdated. I didn't think i'd see the day. Spider IV anyone? By the time people convert to IV, V will be out and people will frantically sell their IV's. (Just like now, check the classifieds)

Question: Does VOX Tonelab do any high gain RAMMSTEIN OR CHILDREN OF BODOM TYPE?
Although I won't be playing this style that often, I'm asking if the tonelab is capable of these type of super razor crunchy sounds. Maybe by layering the Boss distortion pedals over the high gain amps? I wonder how Rammstein gets their distortion in the first place.

Alright I'm a happy camper so far with these new toy I like how I can plug in headphones (without a computer) or output to my receiver directly and monitor wiht my speakers or directly to my Mini Marshall amp. It sounds best on the Amp though.

Ok I can answer the last question. For God sakes man, this has so much gain my ears gonna bleed. While most people think VOX only does "nasally" vintage sounds, theres a lot of ability to get really clean Mesa Boogie sounds combined with Amp distortion combined with pedal distortion. I haven't found the Rammstein tone yet, but there's more gain and high end than you shake a stick at. I never heard so much gain before!

Gotta love the Satriani sound, so smooth you can feel it!!

Doh.. I put it on LINE out when i put it into my amp. No wonder it was so loud!! :ROTF:

I'm more of a classic Maiden/Scorpions/Priest up to Metallica and Megadeth gain kinda guy, so I'm of little help with uber gain stuff.

This thing has a setting called "the trooper" VOX has the old school rock and metal down to the T.

I want to try to emulate the Scorpions Mathias Jabs tone.
                    From wiki:
"Jabs had also once replaced the Marshall amplification logo on his amplifier cabinets with his own name, in the same font style as the Marshall logo. Besides Marshall, Matthias uses Wizard cabinets, Hiwatt, Engl, Fender Prosonic and Soldano amplifiers and cabinets, kitty hawk preamps, Dunlop picks, Seymour Duncan JB pickups, back on the 80's he uses marshall JCM 800 2210 amplifiers which you can see on the world wide live DVD's, acoustic guitars is Ovation 6 and 12 strings, D'addario strings, talk box from Heil."

Theres no wizard cabinet on there, so whats the next closest more commercial thing? Did Mathias use the Marshall distortion or did he put something on top of it like a preamp or pedal?

I'm not sure how you do that? its not digital knobs like the peavey vypyrs. When you change a preset nothing changes except the number and the color code. I tried looking in the manual how to extract the presets breakdown but I don't see it. Help me do that and I'll help you with the Trooper setting.
