And it just plain sounds good. The old stuff doesn't sound old or dated - either song writing and playing-wise or production and audio-quality wise. I don't think I've ever heard such consistency from any band over so long a period of time.

I have to agree. It's tough for me to pin down what era any particular song is from, except the very early stuff, not because it "all sounds the same" really, but more because it's all so damned good.
