  • Chickenfoot

I wanted to respond in Mikes "New Lynchmob" thread but I didnt want to hyjack it anymore than it already was.

When I first heard chickenfoot a few months back, I was not impressed and I never went back to listen to the rest. I wasnt interested at all. A few weeks ago, my sister called and asked if I wanted free floor seats for Chickenfoot at Mohegan Sun (she works there). How could I turn that down? so I went. I didnt know any songs so I didnt know what to expect. I was really blown away. I can see you guys not liking the band, but I have no idea where any of the "Satch doesnt fit" comments are coming from. He totally fits. The songs are good (nothing monumental, but good), they were really tight, backups were spot on, Sammy was on, It was a great show. Chad Smith is key to this band IMO. He's not just the back bone, he really drives the band. You know that feeling you get when you jam with the right group of musicians? That gut feeling that everything jels? Thats how it felt watching these guys. The whole night had this tight, groove feel to it. Just my humble 2 cents. These guys are good. It will be better than anything that comes out of the Van Halen camp. I grew up with Dave era VH, and I play guitar today because of it, but lets be honest. Dave can't sing anymore and Eddie has lost it (mentally).

I LIKE CHICKENFOOT AND IM NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT IT!

Well, I don't know anything about Chickenfoot, but I disagree that either EVH or DLR have lost it. DLR was never a "great" singer in a technical sense, so even if he has lost some range, he still has his charisma, which was always his greatest asset. And, although I like many shredders (Malmsteen, Vai, etc.), I'd rather listen to EVH than any of them, any day.

I don't hate Chickenfoot but I had higher expectations for the album than it delivered. But at least it's a CD I can throw in the car when the wife is there without getting an "oh god please no" look like when I throw in Lamb of God hehe.

In my opinion these guys will do better when/if a second album rolls around. They didn't get to spend as much time on it as most other acts where they've played together for a couple years writing for that first "Hello World" album. The guys were emailing bits of tracks in from all over the world to assemble this one while they were working on other projects.

Thats the Chickenfoot conundrum in my opinion. The amazing level of the sum does not add up to the amazing level of the individual artists.

Not to mention Sammy's lyrics tend to be a little.... Silly for lack of a better word.

My favorite band of all time is DLR era VH and I totally agree with the Charisma thing, but those two songs they did for the first greatest hits record where horrible. Dave sounded terrible. He may not have had a great voice back in the day, but it was very characteristic. I feel thats gone now. If the new stuff is anything like those two songs, I'm done with VH. And I never meant that Eddie "lost it" as far as his playing. As far as talent goes, he's numero uno in my book.

BTW, I still want the dragon back! (when I get funds)

I think the album gets better with each listen; particularly Satchs playing. Only negative would be Sammys lyrics. I think they can do better and I look forward to the sequel!

                  +1 to all of that.

I was a little disappointed by the CD. It's very good. But, considering the artists involved, it should've been GREAT.

I suspect a second release - if they get that far - will be much better.

No shit. That song is great I think. Too bad the reunion during that era fell apart, it would have been better than this last one..I think so anyways. Ed has definately changed over the years, he strikes me as a hotheaded dude these days...drinking like he did/does will fuck ur brain up over the years. He still plays great though.
