  • Funny and killer "out of place" Gary Moore solo

The original version of "Living On Dreams" was more 80's AOR style with a nice more laid back solo, but I've always thought that the newer one is fucking hilarious... cheesy pop with heavy amounts harmonica and then comes the solo, it's short and simple, but with great tone and it's so aggressive that it rips your head off. A nice contrast The full "effect" comes if you listen to it from start to finish.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

I'm a huge fan, but I'm with you. The harmonica doesn't work for me at all. I like harmonica on a real down & dirty blues tune, can't stand it on a polished pop song. It sounds like something you might hear in the background at Applebees and then bam! the solo hits & Aunt Bessie chokes on her curly fries.

Sounds like Gary has been hitting the helium bottle. Is this seriously a re-do by Gazza himself or someone else doing the remix? The vocal track sounds like the original one sped up.

So that's what happened to Boy George's harmonica player.
That was utterly, painfully dreadful, but you're right about the solo - sounds like it was punched-in from an entirely different session.

I don't think the harmonica is all that bad. That solo is hilarious though (in a good way.)

I've never heard the original, but that's definetely Gary singing. I know his blues stuff pretty well and it's certainly his voice there.
The solo sounds like him too, although not like the way he plays nowadays.

Gary Moore is one of the few guys that could play a solo over anything - even rap music - and make it sound awesome. If I remember correctly, back in the 80's a bunch of the musicians in the UK were doing a benefit song (kind of like "We are the World") and they chose the Beatles' "Let it Be". Gary ripped a solo over that song that was awesome. This was a long time ago so I hope the solo was as good as I remember it.
