Really, either he's completely toasted, or it's taken a major toll on his playing. I've never been a big fan of COB but I always thought he was a good guitar player... He seems like he's slacking a shit tone lately.

I immedietly noticed he wasn't wearing eye liner, too. Also, his hair seems to be blonde-ish again. I don't know, the playing just sounds sort of sloppy and not as tight as it should be. He's got tons of talent but I think he's slipping a little bit.

I think he sounds like that very often live, I've never liked that dude because he's a douche and he never did anything for me playing wise either. Don't like his band, songwriting, guitar sound, tone, style of playing etc. On the albums he is on, but I've seen videos of him demonstrating licks or playing live and sometimes he can pull of his fast shit but when it came to more simple pentatonic licks he sounded horrible, vibrato and bends are hit or miss, not much dynamics, the phrasing sounds stiff and he doesn't have much tone in his hands, sounds very sterile to my ears.

Besides the not-so-tight rythm in the very beginning, I was really wondering what was so wrong with this vid ... until the solo part came. Yeah, he fucked it up.
And the sound on that vid is just shit. Definitely not gonna convince me to buy these pickups. Nothing to do with this awesome tone he had on some early releases like Sinergy's To Hell And Back (best tone ever <3) ...
Besides that, I think he is still by far my favourite player if you forget about the last two albums. At least I haven't heard any other guitarist so far whose playing and tone I like as much as Alexi's on albums like FTR, HCDR or THAB. That guy had this thing that makes you never get bored of listening to him playing, cause he never plays twice the exact same thing. Seems he lost it lately though ...2007 Jackson Stars RR Custom

I will admit the solo sounded bad, but I think he played it good. I guess I am that 16 year old fan boy, but Alexi is still my guitar god (him and zakk wylde), but that is something that seems to be true of alexi, he always has been a bit sloppy.I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. Kirk Hammet and John Petrucci like him, even though Alexi said Dream Theater was shit.
And I've never liked EMG's much, some people can work them well but still not the best thing in the world for tone. It also looks like Alexi's worried about something, look at the look on his face. A better indicator of how good he's doing would be some live footage from a show.Comment

I don't listen to that band of his (did try, but not my taste) but I quite enjoyed that. Liked the tone, liked the riffage, thought the solo was alright. Ha ha, the stuff you guys think is shit I liked, what does that say? Who knows.
I'm pretty sure the main riff there is a rip off of a Vader song though.

Yeah, he did look kinda like he wasn't really trying. I guess I'm somewhat of a 16 year old fanboy, but I like his tone on AYDY. Very crunchy, and it cuts through like nobody's business. He's a damn good player, but I would agree that he's no where near the end all- be all of guitarists.Comment
