Ah, I didn't know that. I've seen one of the imports but the abortion of a headstock didn't inspire me to pick it up for a closer look.

Is set neck a Dean thing or do you think Dave is looking for that?

Interesting. Curious on how Dave will play it live. He holds his V's a certain way especialy while soloing. I half expect him to shove the wing into his crotch like his V's!

Not sure if Dean's ever done a neck-thru or not. I own a silver VMNT1 and its neck is sort of the way Schecter does their "set-thru" necks... it's set in with a smooth heel so it actually looks like it's neck-thru. Profile is the same as a KV2 speed neck with medium jumbo frets as per Dave's preference, so I'd assume it's good enough for him and doesn't care about the neck all the way through.

The real Dean company has never ever made a neck-thru guitar. They are all set neck. Back in the early 90's however, when the Dean name was farmed out to a bunch of low quality imports, Sammick did make some neck-thru ML's and Caddys.

I want to say that he's a smart enough guy to realize how much flack he's going to get for the obvious "Hetfield copying" that this appears to be. And that he'd steer clear of that.

But maybe he's oblivious to it, or just doesn't care. LOL.

That headstock looks a lot better on that guitar than the VMNT. I also think the fact that the neck has no binding makes the headstock look not so out of place as it does to me on the VMNT.

Only concern is that heel looks really cumbersome. Getting up to those high frets might be tricky.

Yeah, just seems like an odd choice for a guy who has clearly had issues "living in the shadow" of his former band. *shrug*

It's not as fugly as the Axxion thing was. It'd be cool to see it in silver with black hardware and no distressed finish.
