the controls look too close for comfort to me, also looks alot like you guys were saying, a James rip off. Not very nice and I Love Dean guitars....this.....sucks just IMHO

One question: Why did they choose to "relic" this signature model? To make it look like the Explorer Dave's played live all these years? LOL

I actually kind of like it. Any "distressed" finish though is just stupid to me, hate that on any guitar. Dave has stated that he can't stand 3 + 3 tuners as he gets the tuning direction mixed up when he's trying to quick tune on stage. That's why you will always see this headstock on Dave's Deans.

Out of curiosity, anyone know when Dave's contract is up with Dean? I'm thinking it's pretty soon. Dean Z is gone, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Personally, I think that comment was his roundabout way of saying, "Dean's 3X3 headstocks are ugly as fuck."

Not like he actually tunes his guitars anyway. His tech is doing all that work.

As for his contract with Dean, who knows. Given that this new Explorer model is planned for a NAMM 2010 release I would guess that he either has another year with Dean or he recently resigned.

Ah, I was paying attention more to the shape. Dave was hyping this guitar up to be a new unique shape.. I was like...Uh...No?
