You hear all the time your not supposed to do that but I've seen several people do it and nothing has happened. I won't do it because if it will screw up the neck it will for certain happen to mine. The Les Paul he used has had from what I've found on the net 2 guys claiming to have built it for him, one of which has passed away, don't remeber the names but they were both from somewhere in the SoCal area where they were recording Appetite. Can't say that I blame him having one custom made by a luthier, most Les Pauls I have played you have to retune between every song.

I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

The "Les Paul" was actually a MAX.. dude quite building for a while and the "ghost-built" some guitars for Gibby endorsees who wanted something better.. Joe Perry's original "Boneyard" btw was built for a japanese builder who use to run Gibby Japan shop.. Slash's Firebird got a truss rod/nck tweak.. supposedly ruin the neck.. he was laying down a part and the engineer wanted to have him change his strings.. in a hurry, he cut the strings at at once with wire cutters without slacking them and something in the neck "popped" loudly.. took the neck right out.

Ah yes, the old Max (Peter Baranet) vs. Derrig debate.

        This is supposedly the Max:

        Derrig:

Which one did he record Appetite with? AFAIK, he only gives vague answers that don't settle it.

If you have lots of time to blow, here's a MLP thread w/ Max chiming in at some point:

It is also well known fact that Slash also had the MAX 1959 Replica during the same period in 1985-86 as Guns and Roses used to rehearse in a nearby complex to Max Guitars Hollywood in 1985 and Slash personally knew Max and saw him often enough but had never met Kris...ever! Rumor - Slash...

In response to the bird, I bought a magazine (a uk magazine at a store) once. It had a Slash lesson on what they called passing notes. And it shows his firebird with him playing it. The magazine was called total guitar.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.
