  • Winger Karma- Review

I'm a huge fan of Reb and Winger here's my take on the new album. It's awesome!

Karma is what IV should of been. IV seemed to lean closer to Kip's solo work. Karma sounds like a "Winger" album!

Karma is definitely more along the lines of "Pull" dashed with a little "In the Heart of the Young". I say that because there are production flourishes like the keyboards in the slower songs that sound similar to those on Headed for a Heartbreak.

The first half of the album just ROCKS!

"Deal with the Devil" has sonic similarities to "Battle Stations" and highlights awesome playing by Reb. All the little fills, harmonics, and tapping pretty much sum up why Reb is my favorite guitar player!

"Stone Cold Killer" and "Big World Away" remind me of "Pull" era sonds like "Junkyward Dog" and "Blind Revolution". These are pure adrenaline with Reb at his most rocking! I get chills listening to these songs. Wish it was summer bc these are cruising songs!!!

"Come a Little Closer" is a song that to me is entirely fresh to the "Karma" era. I think it combines elements of Reb and Kip's solo music. It's dark but has some awesome symphonic qualities...just a sick song that grows on you!

"Pull Me Under" has probably one of the strongest hooks on the album and its kind of like a hard rock version of Rainbow in the Rose. Its a nice combination of ITHOTY and Pull. One of Winger's finest moments with an insane solo by Reb.

"Supernova" is the only song that reminds me of Winger IV. It has that Kashmir-ish vibe to it. Also, reminds me of "On the Inside" and "Right Up Ahead." I think this song is going to be one of my favorites.

"Always Within Me" and "Witness" are the big slow songs on the album. They are both unbelievable. They offer the best elements of some of the biggest hits Winger have had. These songs need to be heard!!!! Kips vocals are amazing on these tracks.

"Feeding Frenzy" has a monstrous guitar tone by Reb. This song reminds me of "Generica" but its catchier. The lyrics are great.

Hard to say what my favorite tracks are yet but I'll say that "Big World Away" just blows me away.

For Reb fans, there are so many goodies on this album that I need more time to soak it all in. It's pretty much Reb unleashed.

nice. Thanks for the review. I still haven't picked up IV but Pull still gets a regular listening.

I unfortunately missed them when they toured here a little while back - I couldn't warrant travelling all the way to Sydney (especially midweek) to see them. Vic (genebaby) saw them since Sydney's only a few hours drive from Canberra, but he was only there to see Ratt so Winger was wasted on him! He did concede that Reb is a hell of a player but still thinks Winger sucks (and wanted to know why so many of their songs have the word "enough" in them)

I missed Whitesnake when they toured too, so that's two chances to see Reb gone begging

I'm a huge Reb fan and Rod is one of the best drummers in rock. I heard two quick clips that did nothing for me...I'll have to get the album and give it a good listen as I have yet to hear a bad review.

I just got it today. I really like it actually. Not exactly what people associate Winger with, i.e. their first two albums, but there are catchy songs all over it.
