  • Great solo by Prince

I don't really care for the song or some of the artistes involved, but Prince just fuckin' rips on this one! .

(It's pretty dull up to about the 3:30 mark)

Prince has killer skills on guitars!

Btw, I love his auerswald guitars - I played an auerswald "naomi" about 10 years ago those guitars are phantastic, no weight, plays almost by itself and sustaines for years. But the prices are insane

Prince can play a guitar that's for sure, but that doesn't make me like his music hehe.

When it comes to shredding on that song, I need to hand the award to PG though...

Okay, the PG solo is better.....
But then again, he can play just about anything better than anybody.
It'd be even cooler if he was wearing the same pimpin' duds as Prince!

Wow, I never would have thought of him having guitar skills. Shows what I know.

Here's his SNL appearance from a while back. I like his playing better here on his own tune. Sorry about the commercial, but it's not on youtube:

meh ......One thing I've noticed......you cannot play a bad solo to that song. As long as you're in the right key, anything in the pentatonic makes you sound like a guitar God. Its just one of those types of songs. Just plain built for a solo.

I'm not saying Prince doesn't have chops, because he certainly does. I'm just not wicked impresssed with the solo. It was more the song than the solo.

Prince was ok and he played a nice solo, but there is no comparison to PG. PG ruled hands down!!!

One word describes this guy's "abilities".... POSER. Routine abilities. Nothing special and I have had guitar teachers and friends that would wipe the floor with him on a guitar. He is not alone in the category of players who have made music their living. Look at the Stones. Average musicians on a good day. Kiss on par with the Stones. The list goes on.... Prince.... HAHAHAHAHA

I'd like to see your friends write a tune even half as good as anything made by the Stones or some of the early Prince stuff (For You, S/T, Dirty Mind etc.)

I cant get no satisfaction... lot of thought there bud. Get of my cloud.... brilliant thoughtful MUSIC. Nothing wrong with the Stones music if that is what you are into. They have never progressed or changed their formula for writing songs though. As far as playing their instruments..... HAHAHAHA They are not all that technical or advanced. Kind of "so easy a caveman could play their music" thing (to quote a TV commercial). I believe we were also talking about playing a guitar and not song writing. Prince appeals to a certain type of people. Stones same thing. Both groups are lacking in skillful players compared to the guys playing today. Not being a tru Malmsteen fan, I do have a huge respect of what he does and he executes his music. Few on the planet can play and write the stuff he does. But he is not my cup of tea for regular listening. I am just a grumpy old fart that enjoys good musicality on all different styles of music.
