Cemetary Gates... Dime/Pantera On my MP3 player that I listen to when I run. When it (and pretty much every song Dime plays on) comes on, I have to be careful not to run across busy intersections.

Agreed! Whitesnake unfortunately held Vandenberg back and let Viv and Vai take the spotlight.
From what I got from an interview several decades back:
Vai was a 'fill in' since Adrian was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome (or equivalent)
at the time when the album was going to be recorded
Most of the songs already written, Vai basicly was a session player (then again, who isn't in Whitesnake )
Adrian being fit to tour, it was decided Vai would join them
To add: Vandenberg's "Burning Heart" solo also ranks high in my list but I consider the "Different Worlds" solo better
"There's nothing taking away from the pure masculinity I possess"
I do have to add that Revelation and Mr.Crowley songs/solos are what made me want to learn to play guitar. I loved music up until that point but those songs and how the solos integrate into them, let me see how a structured piece of music could be made so expressive with a guitar.
Y'know? This is gonna sound stupid but,I was just listening to Yahoo Radio, something I don't do very often but I figured what the hell, something different. Anyway, Hearts Magic Man came on and I forgot how cool the lead on that song was. I don't know if that was Nancy Wilson doing it or their other guitarist but it was really good. Damn nice tonal quality. Didn't really give me chills, but very respectable.
- Intro to Victim of Changes - Tipton & Downing.
- Over the Mountain - Randy.
- Two minutes to midnight (studio version) - Maiden. The song was not a real favorite, however towards the end of the lead there are just a few notes before they go back into the vocals. Somehow I always remember those notes when lead work is discussed.
- Cold fire - Rush/Alex.
Manowar - Battle Hymn. Ross The Boss just rips on this one.
All Mick Taylor's superb playing on the Bluesbreakers's Crusade album.
Mountain - Theme for an Imaginary Western.
If counted as a solo, the intro bit to Doctor Doctor on Ufo's Strangers In the Night. Schenker just sets the mood .. and then goes straight to the main theme while the crowd roars! Still gets me everytime..
