So, I've been getting back in Megadeth recently and hearing the return of Ellefson I was really happy as out of all the stuff they've put out, their old stuff is what sticks in my mind, earlier I was listening to Tornado of Souls, then after I thought I haven't checked out much of their new stuff, so I watched the video to Headcrusher, there's certainly a difference between the two but Friedman definitely sticks in my head when I hear Megadeth, so what do you think then?

Because Friedman does not hold his pick like a human he has really different phrasing and attack from most guitarists.
Broderick has massive technical skills and is a killer player, but his solos to me lack that identifiability the a Friedman solo has.GTWGITS! - RacerX

If it's writing, I'll take Friedman. He is amazing at entering solos with great melodies... Tornado is a great example. Broderick has got to be my favorite guitarist however, that guy is just unbelievable.

Easily Friedman. Although when I got into them, Freidman was part of the band. I would probably say Poland if I got into them in 1986. Or Broaderick if I had gotten into them in 2009.
I am usually like that when I get into a band though."I would have banned you for taking part in hijacking and derailing a thread when you could have started your own thread about your own topic." - Unknown

Both Broderick and Friedman are crazy technicians.
I can instantly recognize Friedman's playing. He's got a very distinct style, a great vibrato, and great phrasing. If he's playing fast or slow, he sounds killer and tells a good story with his solos.
I never heard Broderick's work before Megadeth. I saw a live concert on DirecTV and he was flawless. On the new record he completely shreds. I have a feeling Dave's instructions were to show no mercy on this record. I can't say anything bad about the guy but I don't think I can recognize his style yet. He was able to hang with Nevermore so he's no slouch.

Man. The Broderick vs Friedman debate is almost as popular as Metallica or Megadeth.
I like Friedman better, that's not a knock at Broderick in any way shape or form. I just think he's written some of the best solo's ever. His playing is very unique and his vibrato is unforgettable. Chris is a great technical player and a beast of a guitarist. I just prefer Friedman.Originally posted by horns666The only thing I choke during sex is, my chicken..especially when I wanna glaze my wife's buns.
