To paraphrase a song he's not even on, Marty IS the news, and Megadeth is old news, though still making great albums. But their impact was greatest with Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction and they will never top the impact of those albums.

It's not a knock on Chris to choose Marty; Friedman is just a lot more distinctive and wrote some very distinctive solos. Chris is a monster player and it's great he's no longer in Loomis' shadow.

I saw Broderick with Jag Panzer back in 2001 or 2002. He definitely has the skills, but I haven't seen the musicality yet. I guess we'll have to wait until Megadeth's next album and hope Dave lets him write some material.

I did not vote in the poll because both was not an option.

I think they were both just what Megadeth needed at the time they came along. I could have respect for Marty for the rest of my life based just off his solo work on RIP but Megadeth definitely had a crap period with him as well.
Sometimes a lineup change is what a band needs to revitalize themselves and in the same way I can't imagine them having made RIP with Jeff Young, I have to wonder if Endgame would have been such a pleasant surprise with Marty.

im going with marty friedman. To me great guitar playing has nothing to do with speed, just about choosing the best notes that make a great melody. Chris is a monster shredder, but none of the solos he did on Endgame were anything more than a million notes with weak phrasing.

If you wanna hear some great shredding by Marty Friedman check out the title track off my band Age Of Evil's first CD "Living A Sick Dream". We had Marty shred some solos over the whole song and it sounds killer

Did Chris write most of his solos on Endgame? I have a hard time believing Mustaine didn't at least have a little (ok, a lot) of input. Dave isn't a phenomenal solo writer either so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Damn, must be nice,....did you lure him with sushi?

I concur with the outcome of this poll -
Marty changed the landscape and just created this unique style -

Chris is very skilled tho - i wouldn't be opposed to a solo album of hyper self indulgence from him
And no doubt he's playing better music today

I voted Marty... he is just too inspiring as a musician.

But I am sure Chris Broderick will eventually show us his own musicality... when Mustaine allows him to

Watch the video clips on Chris Broderick's personal site... he definitely does NOT lack in musicality.
